A great man

With many important interviews, this documentary shows clearly the importance and impact of Brazilian UN officer Sérgio Vieira de Mello, killed in his mission in Iraq. He combined practical ethos of making happen with idealistic dreaming about making world better.

an amazing human being

I had first heard of Brazilian diplomat Sergio Vieira de Mello less than a year before the bombing of the UN headquarters in Baghdad killed him, but I didn't totally know what he devoted his life to. "En Route to Baghdad" does a masterful job showing it. Some may argue that he was just another rich boy who got the chance to do everything that he did, but I beg to differ. Clearly he believed in what he did, repatriating large numbers of Cambodians and bringing peace to East Timor. And I think that it's really cool that he participated in the '68 uprising in Paris, and then was in Mozambique when it won independence.

All in all, Sergio Vieira de Mello was a most incredible person, and this is a documentary that everyone should see. It also features interviews with Kofi Annan, Richard Holbrooke, and several other people in the diplomatic circle.
