Storyline

39-year-old April Epner's childish husband and school teacher colleague Benjamin/Ben leaves her, but with her biological clock ticking ever more loudly. Her dying bossy adoptive mother is very vocal about her disappointment, while her natural son Freddy, a doctor, is most understanding. Shy but fascinating British author Frank meets April, his doted son Jimmy Ray's teacher, which soon leads to a full-flung affair. At the same time April's birth mother Bernice Graves locates her and begins attempting to establish a relationship. On top of all these balls in the air, April discovers she's finally expecting Ben's baby. Written by KGF Vissers

Goofs

Barbetta is on 46th between 8th and 9th. Traffic goes west to east. But when they come out of the restaurant and walk to the car (which would be going east) the cars are all parked going west, and April backs her car up from west to east. There are also no clothing boutiques along that stretch of the street. And the cosmetic counter where Bernice says she worked would not be towards the Hudson where she points. See more »

A wonderfully moving picture.
13 September 2008 | by (Australia) – See all my reviews

A wonderfully moving picture. Very real and certainly deserving of higher rating than depicted. The story is real, the acting is poignant and heartfelt. Hunt, Midler, Broderick & Firth are superb. I watched it two nights in a row. This movie is for everyone who knows what it's like to yearn for children and for everyone who has become a parent. As the events unfold, you become attached to the characters and feel for each individual one of them. There are no favorites here, as each actor holds your attention equally in their respective roles. Such a beautiful film. Congratulations go out to Hunt and the whole team. It is so refreshing to watch a movie which has something to say.
