As a reasonably open-minded fan of extreme cinema, I have no problem with the inclusion of hardcore sex in a filmparticularly when the genre is horror, since sex and violence are a classic combo. The problem is that the two elements are rarely well integrated, and too often the result is a disharmonious product, with the emphasis on the humping often outweighing the horror.
Slaughter Disc is such a film.
Robert Williams plays Mike, a porn obsessed loser whose search for extreme sex leads him to a website where he purchases a DVD starring Andromeda Strange (Caroline Pierce), a weird goth XXX-star who has gained a reputation for nastiness. Robert soon becomes hooked on the depraved sexual antics of Ms. Strange, but with each viewing, what he witnesses on the disc becomes more and more disturbing.
Writer/director David Quitmeyer's 'Ringu'-style narrative is actually quite well relayed, with competent direction, and a reasonable performance from Williams as chronic masturbator Mike. But the strength of the tale is undermined by the incessant, and overlong sex scenes which cause the flow of the film to falter. Each sex scene has a running time of around 10-15 minutes; fairly typical for a porno (enough time to 'knock one out' to), but wayyy too drawn out for a film hoping to tell a decent story as well.
In my opinion, Quitmeyer should have drastically reduced the quantity of sex (the blood and violence involved makes it fairly unerotic anyway) and upped the level of gore. The result would have been much more impressive.
