Plot holes

The ventriloquist dummy is considered evidence due to the fact that it arrived the same day Lisa died yet the doll is not retrieved from the crime scene allowing Jamie to take it to his hometown to investigate it's history. Det. Lipton confronts Jamie for trying to get rid of evidence by burying the doll which could have easily been avoided if the authorities had simply retrieved the doll from the crime scene.

Jamie states that in his hometown, receiving a ventriloquist dummy out of nowhere is a bad omen, if so then why didn't he get rid of it when it arrived at his doorstep?

Spoilers

The goof items below may give away important plot points.

Crew or equipment visible

(at around 1h 0 mins) When Jamie leaves his father's house to meet Henry at the theatre, a member of the production crew can clearly be seen standing behind a bush in the garden as his car reverses.

Plot holes

Ella Ashen controls Edward Ashen as a human puppet and provides his voice for him as revealed in the twist ending. When Ella is downstairs talking to Jamie, Edward is upstairs and that is where the voice is coming from. Ella modified his corpse to be a human puppet and speaks for him, so who did the voice of Edward while he was upstairs?

Correction: this shouldn't be seen as a goof. Ventriloquists can 'throw their voice', (make their voice sound as if it's coming from somewhere else). It would be easy for Ella Ashen to project her voice and make it seem as if it were coming from upstairs. Additionally, this ability is explained in the movie when Mary Shaw is able to throw Billy's voice into the house of the theater when she is looking for him at the beginning of her act in the flashback scene.
