More "Flash," "Arrow" & Spin-Off News

17 March 2015 1:32 PM, PDT | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

Still more news and quotes are coming out from this weekend's PaleyFest panels regarding the two currently airing ("Arrow," "The Flash") and one untitled and in development series on The CW which are based on DC Comics titles.

First up, the in development superhero team-up series has scored a new cast member - Dominic Purcell as Heatwave. Purcell has been guest starring as the villain on "The Flash" alongside his old "Prison Break" co-star Wentworth Miller as Captain Cold.

Both Miller and Purcell are set to be full cast members of this new show which is building an eclectic mix of goodies and baddies out of guest and recurring stars from the other two shows. Producer Greg Berlanti compared the show to ensemble pics like "Ocean's Eleven" and "The Magnificent Seven," saying it's a true ensemble as opposed to the singular heroes of the other two shows.

Greg Berlanti discusses the Flash/Arrow spin-off as Dominic Purcell’s Heatwave joins the cast

17 March 2015 11:54 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Last month, it was announced that The CW is to extend its DC output with a spin-off show from Arrow and The Flash, which will feature the likes of Brandon Routh (Ray Palmer/The Atom), Victor Garber (Martin Stein/Firestorm), Wentworth Miller (Leonard Snart/Captain Cold) and Caity Lotz, who portrayed Sara Lance/Black Canary on Arrow.

At PaleyFest this past weekend, Variety caught up with producer Greg Berlanti, who offered up a few words on the thinking behind the new spin-off series:

For us, first and foremost, with all of [our shows], it’s about ‘how is it its own thing?’ Because we don’t just want to do it to do it. Some people do that and then they’re three episodes in, thinking, ‘Why did we do this?’ So for me, I compare the shows to old Westerns; we have a lot of lone gunmen and sheriffs in town, »

VOD Review – Halo: Nightfall

Halo: Nightfall (2014)

Starring Steven Waddington, Siennah Buck, Mike Colter, Christian Contreras, Alexander Bhat, Luke Neal

Synopsis:

While investigating terrorist activity on the distant colony world of Sedra, Jameson Locke and his team are caught in a horrific biological attack that exposes them to a much deeper danger.

Halo is easily one of the biggest franchises in gaming to date, with an epic story full of grandiose sic fi tropes and strong characters by the bowl full. So it was always going to be a difficult prospect to translate its story into a live action TV show. Forward Unto Dawn was the first attempt and despite some flaws it pretty much got the tone spot on and by choosing to focus on human characters rather than good old John Spartan aka Master Chief, a lot of that burden was lifted.

Fast forward to the announcement of the Xbox One console and »

Kiefer Sutherland, Mr T and more: Casting the TV Expendables

9 March 2015 2:00 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

The Expendables 3 might not have set the box office alight, but you can't keep a good action hero down.

Sylvester Stallone is reportedly planning to bring his Oap ass-kicker franchise to the small-screen, with an Expendables event series in the works at Fox.

Much like how the films united action heroes of '80s and '90s cinema - Stallone, Schwarzenegger et al - so this new show is looking to bring together iconic TV tough guys from yesteryear.

Casting is yet to be confirmed, but in the meantime, here's Digital Spy's dream team for the TV Expendables.

1. Kiefer Sutherland

Credentials: 24

He might not be eager to reprise Jack Bauer any time soon (dammit!) but Kiefer has to be on this list. His commanding presence makes him a natural fit for team leader - the TV equivalent of Stallone's Barney Ross.

2. Michael Chiklis

Credentials: The Shield

Arrow/The Flash crossover spin-off in development

Brandon Routh, Caity Lotz , Wentworth Miller and Victor Garber are in The CW’s plan for a new show in the Arrow/The Flash universe…

Contains spoilers for Arrow season 3 episode 1.

Here’s an interesting one. Arrow and The Flash’s creative driving force of Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim are plotting a new superhero team-up show set in their CW-verse.

On the roster for the show (which is still in the discussions stage), would be Brandon Routh, Caity Lotz, Wentworth Miller and Victor Garber. The show would presumably leave the door propped open for other characters to pop in and out.

The smallest surprise on that list is surely Brandon Routh, who has been rumoured for his own show ever since his character Ray Palmer mentioned his Atom suit in Arrow. Flying, growing and shrinking would be on his agenda, and possibly some new abilities to boot. »
