The Secret Life of Walter Mitty review: Ben Stiller’s excellent adventure

23 December 2013 2:04 AM, PST | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

A cheery, airy fairy tale filled with a very modern ache and buoyed by an infectious joy. I love this movie. I’m “biast” (pro): like Stiller as a filmmaker; the trailer thrilled me

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

I have not read the source material

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

The first thing I had to do after laughing through, weeping over, and reveling in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is grab two amazing songs off the soundtrack to listen to over and over again, to recapture the walking-on-air feeling the movie left me with. Those songs are “Step Out” by Swedish folk-pop singer José González and “Dirty Paws” by indie Icelandic band Of Monsters and Men. Everybody sings in English, and both songs are available on iTunes, and you need them, too, even if you’ve only heard these songs in the trailers for the film, »

Due out towards the end of next year, Antoine Fuqua’s The Equalizer sees the director reteaming with action legend Denzel Washington after their brilliant pairing on Training Day.

Wrapping production over the summer, we’ve been waiting for the first official look at Washington, and now it’s landed online.

Based on the 1980s TV series of the same name, the film sees Washington take on the role first played by Edward Woodward, starring as an ex-covert operative who offers his services in order to atone for his past sins.

Chloë Grace Moretz, Melissa Leo, Haley Bennett, Marton Csokas, Johnny Messner, Vladimir Kulich, and Robert Wahlberg complete the cast alongside Washington.

Fuqua is directing from a script penned by Richard Wenk (The Mechanic, The Expendables 2), with Washington himself producing alongside Todd Black and Jason Blumenthal (Seven Pounds, The Pursuit of Happyness).

The film has been in development for years, »

Aaron Paul Joins Fathers And Daughters With Amanda Seyfried And Russell Crowe

22 November 2013 1:32 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul has signed on to star in the generation-spanning drama Fathers and Daughters, alongside Amanda Seyfried and Russell Crowe.

The film, set to be directed by The Pursuit of Happyness helmer Gabriele Muccino, will follow two characters living 25 years apart in New York City. In one plot thread, Crowe will portray a novelist struggling to raise his five-year-old daughter while simultaneously combatting mental illness. The other half of Fathers and Daughters will focus on the grown-up daughter (Seyfried), who attempts to deal with childhood trauma and hold onto her first serious relationship.

Fathers and Daughters sounds like a real tearjerker, as well as catnip to Oscar voters, so I’m excited to see how this project turns out. No word yet on Paul’s role, though it’s likely safe to assume that he’ll act as the love interest for Seyfried’s character. The pair »

Conrad, whose screenwriting credits include The Weather Man, The Pursuit of Happyness and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, will base his film on the book Belushi by Judith Belushi Pisano and Tanner Colby.
