Work on the project - currently known as Bond 23 - was said to have been held up while permission was granted. At one stage there had been talk of moving the scenes to another country or delaying production for several weeks.

There are few better ways to break on to the film stage than by starring as the female lead in a Johnny Depp movie. Pretty much every movie he stars in finds a mass audience, either domestically or internationally. Basically, I have fantastic news if you are a British actress named Ruth Wilson. Deadline has learned that Wilson, who stars as Alice Morgan on the Idris Elba television show Luther, is currently in talks to star alongside Armie Hammer - as the masked hero - and Depp - as his sidekick, Tonto - in Disney's The Lone Ranger. The film is set to be directed by original Pirates of the Caribbean helmer Gore Verbinski and is currently scheduled with a December 21, 2012 release date where it will compete with Peter Jackson's The Hobbit, Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, Ang Lee's The Life Of Pi and, possibly, J.J. ‘Life of Pi’ Gets a New Release Date

Briefly: Now that Peter Jackson's next film, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, has a firm release date [1] of December 14, 2012, it is time for other studios to start reworking their December schedules to get out of the way of the Middle-Earth juggernaut. The first project to scramble out of the way is Life of Pi, Ang Lee's adaptation of Yann Martel's novel. Fox has just moved the film to December 21, 2012, which is still a pretty damn good date for the film. The project has taken a long time to come together, with several directors trying to get the adaptation going. It is finally moving forward as Ang Lee was able to come up with a plan to make a 3D film that met with Fox's approval. Suraj Sharma, a high schooler from Delhi and newcomer to acting, has been cast as the film’s title character Pi Patel — the teen who, »

After Irrfan Khan opted out, Ronit Roy came on board for Midnight's Children

13 April 2011 6:24 AM, PDT | BollywoodHungama | See recent BollywoodHungama news »

Ronit Roy is back being the bad dad. In Udaan, he roughed up his 16-year old screen-son (Rajat Barmecha) so bad the boy finally runs away from home. Now in Deepa Mehta's Midnight's Children, a role Ronit flash-stepped into, just like Udaan where he was a last-minute replacement-he hits his screen-son (Darsheel Safary) so hard the character goes deaf in one year. The musical chairs in the casting for Deepa Mehta's Midnight's Children continues. Now it comes to light that Udaan's multi-award winning actor Ronit Roy has suddenly replaced Irrfan Khan to play the pivotal role of Ahmed Sinai, the protagonist Saleem Sinai's father. Apparently, Deepa was keen that Irrfan do the role for two reasons: she had never worked with her arch-rival Mira Nair's favourite actor before, and more importantly she needed someone with a good command over the Holy Quran. Says a source, "Irrfan fitted the bill perfectly. »
