Dual purpose

This is one of the four featurettes on the DVD of The Mask, and with a running time of 14 minutes(well, 12 and a half sans credits), it's the second-to-longest of them. It consists of interviews, classic cartoons, film clips and FX shots in various stages. This starts out with them talking about the famous Tex Avery screwball animation productions and how inspired they were by them, and then proceeds with them going over how they did the special effects, and how Jim was to work with for that. There is a little switching back and forth between footage from different sources and which aren't all of equally high quality. Everybody has cool enough things to say, and it's cool to hear them talk about the old and still popular 2D shorts, not to mention to find out the specifics of how they achieved all those eyeballs popping, tongues rolling and whatnot. This isn't disturbing or bothersome to you unless the intentionally comical violence that does not show realistic aftermaths to physical altercations is something that you(like me) don't think children should see. I recommend this to any and all fans of the movies interested in the subject. 7/10
