In the early 20th century, quite a few American filmmakers made films about the evils of liquor. In these very heavy-handed pictures, a good man takes a drink--only to end up in the gutter--ruined by 'demon rum'! Well, although this film is French and not about alcohol, it is very similar. It has a very simplistic message and comes off as very preachy...very.
The film begins with a crazed inventor. Instead of worrying about his business, he keeps thinking about his newest invention--to the detriment of his family. The mother, daughter and son are forced to work overtime to make ends meet--all thanks to dad! Eventually, the daughter is on the brink of death (!!!) and the son comes to the rescue.
Everything about the film comes off as preachy--very preachy. While the film is modestly entertaining, its heavy-handed message simply make this one seem silly and a bit ridiculous.
