The pop princess wore a sun hat and shades to protect herself from the rays and donned a bright yellow bikini. She seemed relaxed as she lay out on a towel with a book by her side. Her kids were also all smiles as they posed with their mom in front of the water.  "Me and my boys enjoying the warm weather!!!" the 36-year-old singer captioned the photos.   The "Oops!...I Did It Again" singer gave...

Pitch Perfect 3 movie review: pitch, please…

MaryAnn’s quick take… The slim charms of the previous movies have been tossed away in favor of cringe-inducing cattiness and a ridiculous plot. There’s barely even any music. Aca-palling. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing

I’m “biast” (con): not the biggest fan of the previous films

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

Pitch Perfect 3, third in the comedy series about the young women of a competitive university a cappella singing group, opens with them belting out a massive rendition of Britney Spears’s “Toxic” on a yacht off the south of France… and then leaping off the boat in slo-mo while it explodes.

This is really rather remarkable: I don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie jump the shark — or the exploding yacht — in its opening scene.

Even more remarkable: Then the movie flashes back to “Three weeks earlier.” At

‘Pitch Perfect 3’ Review: The Bellas are Back in a Sequel Aimed to Please

The opening sequence of Pitch Perfect 3 finds the Bellas aboard a luxury yacht doing a version of Britney Spears’ “Toxic” that feels even more synthetic than the original (a perfect pop confection in its own right, mind you), but before we can say “aca-wtf” and wonder how’d they end up there, we see a title card that reads “three weeks earlier.” It’s in this split second when the movie’s intentions materialize and you can decide if you’ll willingly come along for the ride or not; for it’s clear that the Bellas are no longer just the multiracial, quirky, extremely talented group of a cappella singers we met five years ago, but, as with most art in the 21st century, they’ve become the epitome of commercial.

And who can blame them? After the success of the first film, which spawned an even more unlikely

'Pitch Perfect 3': Film Review

The third installment in Universal's hit franchise revolving around an a cappella singing group doesn't begin how you would expect. The opening sequence features the familiar heroines singing Britney Spears' "Toxic" on a massive yacht as all hell breaks loose around them. The fiery explosions and violent mayhem seem more appropriate for a James Bond movie than a lighthearted comedy, and it effectively signals that Pitch Perfect 3 is only going downhill from there.

Franchise fatigue is evident throughout this mechanical enterprise, which squanders the good will engendered by the original 2012 sleeper hit and, to a lesser...

Film Review: ‘Pitch Perfect 3’

Film Review: ‘Pitch Perfect 3’
A great many people who now know the term “a cappella” probably didn’t before “Pitch Perfect,” in 2012, charmed and annoyed and tickled us with its happy skewed fusion of sunburst harmony and junior-catfight kitsch. Yet the “Pitch Perfect” franchise hasn’t always stayed true to the spirit of a cappella. The first film mostly did: The Bellas, the all- girl superstars of Barden University, sang in pop competitions without accompaniment, and though the music was processed and Auto-tuned to within an inch of its life, we basically heard the sound of their voices spun together into sweet-and-sassy frozen-custard perfection. In “Pitch Perfect 2” (2015), however, the synthesizers and drum machines took over: The numbers were bloated into a kind of soupy a cappella murk, and so was the movie, a low-camp bee-otch-fest that slogged on and on, well past the point when a film that treats pop singles like vocal ad jingles should have quit.

That makes “Pitch Perfect 3

Britney Spears' Exes Unite! Kevin Federline and Justin Timberlake 'Have Gone Golfing'

  • TooFab
Kevin Federline and Justin Timberlake aren't letting their past get in the way of friendship! In a new interview with Us Weekly, Britney Spears' ex-husband revealed that he is friends with the "Mirrors" crooner, despite their shared connection to the pop star. "In the beginning when [Britney and I] first got together, it was awkward and I felt bad -- I felt like maybe I should have called [Justin] and talked to him," Federline told the mag. "But I didn’t have his number." Federline and Spears were married from 2004 to 2007 and have two sons together -- Sean Preston, 9, and Jayden James, 8. And while neither K-Fed or Jt made it work with Britney in the long run, Kevin admits that he still hangs out with Justin on occasion. "We’re cool. Me and J are. I actually just went to his last show in Vegas and hung out with him, got to see a lot of old friends,

The Beastie Boys 'Fight For Your Right Revisted' And The Greatest Celebrified Videos Of All Time

On Thursday, much to the delight of Stanley Tucci enthusiasts and students of meta-comedy the world over, the Beastie Boys premiered a teaser clip for "Fight For Your Right Revisited," their short film that chronicles the events that transpired following their epochal 1987 video of the same name (or, as the B-Boys put it, "the long-ass video thing.")

Featuring appearances by pretty much everybody — Will Ferrell, Danny McBride, Jack Black, Jason Schwartzman, Ted Danson, Susan Sarandon, the aforementioned Tucci and Seth Rogen, to name just a few — it's most certainly a celebrified thing, but it also manages to rise above the usual cameo crap-heap by being really clever, too, filled with wink-wink nods to the Beastie's past, Ferrell's legendary "More Cowbell!" "SNL" sketch, and even the late, lamented "Arrested Development" ("Come On!")

In short, it's everything you could possibly want from a celeb-heavy clip, but is that enough to

DVD Releases for Oct. 19th. Time to stock up for Halloween.

Predators

Robert Rodriguez presents Predators, a bold new chapter in the Predator universe. Adrien Brody stars as Royce, a mercenary who reluctantly leads a group of elite warriors mysteriously brought together on a jungle planet. But when these cold-blooded human “predators” find themselves in all-out war against a new breed of alien Predators, it’s the ultimate showdown between hunter and prey. DVD Releases - October 19th: It's a Rocky, Psycho Night of the Predators in Mirrors

The number of home video releases on October 19th is not as abundant as in recent weeks, and fewer re-released titles means those that are available are much more special. In this batch one Adrien Brody flick competes with another, and at least two independent horror titles are making a splash. Two beloved classic films return in Blu-ray where one is supplemented by a documentary treatment of it.

Also, don't forget to strum & drum out with some tunes from Rob Zombie on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Finally, foreign horror gives us an over-the-top Japanese gorefest, a British zombie flick where the $70 budget was spent on tea and biscuits for the zombies, and Norwegian black metal.
