Based on a True Story: The Making of 'Monster' (2004)

This fourteen-minute documentary takes us behind-the-scenes of the making of MONSTER, the 2003 film that won Charlize Theron the Best Actress Oscar. Interviewed here is director Patty Jenkins and actors Theron, Christina Ricci and Bruce Dern. The featurette covers subjects such as the production, what the actress and director were trying to do with the story, the make-up effects and the difficulties of trying to tell a story that many people might not want to hear. Overall this is a mildly entertaining featurette considering the short running time. I think the subject matter was interesting enough to where they could have extended this because it would have been interesting hearing more from Theron on how she got into the part. There are a few scenes here where we see her pretty much breakdown after doing the work so it would have been nice hearing more about what all she did to get into the character. Still, fans of the film will want to check this out.
