Warren Springer, an eccentric scientist, spends all his time in the basement manufacturing useless inventions, much to his daughters' distress.
Assuming this is the movie I recall seeing as an 8 / 9 year old, it is highly entertaining.
His latest invention is a potion to turn anything into glass. When his perpetually nagging mother-in-law wants proof, he tries to transmorph a piece of bread that she's holding, and accidentally turns her into glass. NOW he has to find an antidote, and then create a "glass softener" so he can inject it into the glass statue.
Lots of silly humor all around, including: - the opera singer who almost shatters the statue with his voice - peeling a banana that has a skin made of iron with pliers (a failed experiment) - the successful glass softener solution, demonstrated by bending a lightbulb
Only 30 minutes long? Can't believe it was that short!
