Kate Winslet says no plastic surgery; Rachel Weisz, Emma Thompson echo sentiments

18 August 2011 4:06 PM, PDT | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

Three Hollywood actresses have stated they are not down with plastic surgery - Kate Winslet, Rachel Weisz and Emma Thompson. Good for them, we say!

Kate, a six-time Oscar nominee and one-time winner, tells U.K. newspaper The Guardian, "It goes against my morals, the way that my parents brought me up and what I consider to be natural beauty. I will never give in. I am an actress, I don't want to freeze the expression of my face." Winslet is a

Winslet's "Sense and Sensibility" co-star and Oscar winner Emma Thompson echoes her sentiments. "We're in this awful youth-driven thing now where everybody needs to look 30 at 60."

"People who look too perfect don't look sexy or particularly beautiful," says Rachel Weisz, an Oscar winner for the 2005 film "The Constant Gardener."

We strongly support you, ladies! You are so beautiful just as you are.

The Academy's Production Design Database

30 June 2011 6:36 PM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

Did any of you catch that AMPAS has opened up a Production Design Database? It's just got two sample searches right now "Science Fiction" and "Wedding Clothes" and many of the items you still have to make appointments to actually see but what they do have up gives you a taste of their rich history. (It's better to search more generally -- like say by picking a year -- than to search for a specific film). Since I didn't do as much as I intended for the June Wedding theme here at the blog, I thought I'd share a couple of their illustrations for one last walk down an aisle (and to give you a taste of the type of stuff they have.)

The wedding search is more Costume Design than Production Design but those two departments are usually tight. In the picture above you see illustrations of stars Elizabeth Taylor »

Exclusive Q&A: Mélanie Laurent Has More Than 'Beginners' Luck

2 June 2011 11:00 AM, PDT | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

American audiences first met gorgeous French actress Mélanie Laurent when she burned down the house as Shoshanna in Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds."

She now co-stars in Mike Mills' haunting new movie "Beginners." Oliver (Ewan McGregor) is struggling with the loss of his father, Hal (Christopher Plummer), who died from cancer just five years after coming out of the closet. Then Oliver meets Anna (Laurent) at a Halloween party and falls in love with the funny, complicated, insightful woman who moves from hotel room to hotel room. The film is based loosely on Mills' relationship with his own father.

Laurent is also a jazz singer and director; her full-length directorial debut will come out this November in France. Blunt and beautiful, Laurent is just the woman Hollywood needs right now, and she wasn't shy about telling us why she auditioned with a fake dog, or exactly what she thinks of director Lars von Trier. »

Revisit the Past with Jim Bianco

6 April 2011 12:55 PM, PDT | ShockYa | See recent ShockYa news »

The modern day Joe Cocker has just arrived into the music scene. We still think that Cocker’s famed tunes, such as “You Are So Beautiful” and “With A Little Help From My Friends,” could be released nowadays and reclaim their #1 positions on the charts. What we mean by modern day is that this artist brings back Cocker’s rugged vocals into a world where repetitive and beat heavy tracks dominate the radio waves. Although his tunes might not have these contemporary elements, we still imagine the tracks of the up and coming artist, Jim Bianco, passing alongside these wavelengths. Bianco’s ability to control his raspy sound unearths a bunch of [...] »
