Storyline

In 1936, the Wollners - a German family living in rural Morgan County, West Virginia - are contacted by the Third Reich to host a visiting scholar, Professor Richard Wirth. In need of money, they accept Wirth into their home. Wirth's grand occult project seals the Wollners off from the rest of the world and makes them players in a horrifying game of survival. After 71 years, in 2007, Evan Marshall's life has stalled at twenty-five years old. Left without answers after his older brother Victor's disappearance from a camping trip near Town Creek, he has tried to move on. But when Victor returns one night, very much alive and having escaped his captors, Evan asks no questions - at his brother's request, he loads their rifles, packs up their boat and follows him back to Town Creek on a mission of revenge that will test them in every possible way... Quotes

[first lines]
Narrator: In the early '30s, Adolf Hitler and his inner circle became obsessed with the occult, believing that the black arts were key to their plan for world domination. Nazi agents travelled the globe in search of ancient Nordic relics known as rune stones. They believed if they harnessed the power of these stones, nothing could stop the march of the Master Race. The symbols inscribed in these stones were said to describe the path... to immortality.

Extravagant but Absent of a good story.
22 October 2012 | by (Canada) – See all my reviews

Good action and decent suspense, Blood Creek has all the makings for a solid movie of the week. Unfortunately it falls victim to trying to be too advanced as well as too unbelievable.

In movie worlds where an audience is expected to suspend disbelief, the most important thing is for us to know what's going on. Thus is not the case with this film. The performances are solid and believable, but the problem is, in such an overdone storyline, I had a hard time framing what exactly the motivations and straight out story was. Which is why I actually commend the actors. This story was bad but yet they were decently convincing to me in their motivations, even though I only mildly, at best, knew what those motivations were.

This would be a decent flick to have playing in the background as eye candy. It's freakier to just not know what the story is or what's going on. The film has a solid production value and would be best utilized quietly in Future Shop TV displays. If you're trying to follow the film and realize the solid action you're seeing isn't motivated by a plot line you can make proper sense of, it just makes the movie not scary and confusing. Have it on while the vacuums is running, and you might screech a few times and actually enjoy it.

This movie could benefit from a simplified plot and more clarity. All the production elements were there, a coherent story was not. It's a good piece to get a glimpse of some good actors though. Given the material and their talent, as well as their direction from Joel Schumacher, they were able to at least Batman Forever style salvage it a little bit. Actually Batman Forever was better than this movie. There's a scope for comparison.

meh, 5.5-6/10, depending if you're cleaning or not. Not a horrible film by any means, but it feels like the studio bought the script but forgot to edit it before shooting. Too bad, definitely had good potential.
