X-Men: Apocalypse Thursday Box Office Beats Days of Future Past

27 May 2016 9:09 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The X-Men franchise has always been an underdog in the superhero genre, and that continues heading into Memorial Day Weekend. While the latest entry didn't do Batman V Superman or Civil War opening night numbers during its Thursday night preview in 3,565 theaters, X-Men: Apocalypse did manage to pull in a healthy $8.2 million when it debuted at 7Pm last night. This was definitely enough to beat X-Men: Days of Future Past, the previous team effort that landed back in the summer of 2014.

X-Men: Days of Future Past collected $8.1 million during its Thursday night previews when it opened in the exact same Memorial Day frame just two years ago. It went onto have a $35.5 million Friday. As it stands now, the third entry X-Men: The Last Stand, which debuted way back in 2006, still holds the best Memorial Day Friday opening with $45.1 million. It doesn't look like Apocalypse is going to reach that plateau, »

'Batman v Superman'... Dawn of a New March Opening Weekend Record?

24 March 2016 12:21 PM, PDT | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

We've come to the final weekend in March and 2016 has already seen a superhero film top $300 million at the domestic box office, and, with the summer movie season still over a month away, another looks to bring in more than half that figure in its first three days. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has set its sight on the March opening weekend record and then some as Warner Bros. delivers the superhero showdown into 4,242 theaters this weekend. Also, as a bit of counter-programming, Universal is releasing My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 into 3,130 theaters and while it won't come close to Batman v Superman, it's looking to make its own impression on the weekend box office. Upon its release in 2012, The Hunger Games previously held the record for the widest March opening of all time (4,137 theaters) as it brought in $152.5 million, which is currently the largest March opening weekend of all-time. »

17 February 2016 6:08 AM, PST | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

The Guardians of the Galaxy are officially back in action, as today brings word that James Gunn has started production on Vol. 2 reuniting the original cast with some newcomers as well.  Come inside to check out the full press release!

Aside from the plethora of upcoming Star Wars films, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has to be one of my most anticipated films on the horizon.  The first film serves as a wonderful science fiction adventure, with endearing characters, and I can't wait to see what happens to them next.  Along with the production announcement, comes a new cast list, announcing new actors including Kurt Russell!

Previously Russell had been rumored to be up for the part of Peter Quill's (Chris Pratt) mysterious father...While the announcement doesn't reveal which part he's playing, it looks like those rumors may prove to be true.  Anywho, check out the full release »
