Harrison Ford And Abigail Breslin Join Sci-Fi Ender’s Game

22 December 2011 10:00 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

When word came earlier this month that rising young star Hailee Steinfeld would be joining Asa Butterfield for the upcoming sci-fi film Ender’s Game, there were also rumours that none other than Harrison Ford was talks for a leading role.

It now looks like those rumours were well-informed, with Variety reporting that both Harrison Ford and Abigail Breslin are joining Butterfield and Steinfeld as leads in the film.

“Set in Earth’s utopian future, “Ender’s Game” stars Asa Butterfield (“Hugo”) as a genius strategist recruited by the government to help destroy an insect-like alien race.”

And with the additional casting news comes information on the roles that Ford, Breslin, and Steinfeld are taking:

“Ford will play Colonel Hyram Graff, who’s in charge of training young military recruits. Breslin will play Valentine Wiggin, Ender’s older sister, while Steinfeld plays Petra Arkanian, Ender’s trusted right hand.”

Sounds pretty awesome to me. »

Harrison Ford, Abigail Breslin in ‘Ender’s Game’

21 December 2011 2:00 PM, PST | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

Harrison Ford is officially on board OddLot Entertainment’s Ender’s Game, the long-awaited adaptation of Orson Scott Card’s award-winning sci-fi novel. Abigail Breslin (pictured right) is also joining the cast, alongside young talents Asa Butterfield (Hugo) and Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit).

In Card’s novel, Earth is reeling from an attack by an alien race called the Formics (informally, “buggers.”) To battle the buggers, Earth’s International Fleet establishes a Battle School for teaching gifted children space combat tactics.

Butterfield will play Ender, a prodigy at the school and a rare third child in a society limited to only two. Steinfeld is set as Petra, an early ally in the school’s all-important training games. OddLot Entertainment has aged the children up, from six and above to roughly fourteen, which comes as no surprise considering the dark and potentially unnerving tone. James Franco Bashes ‘Breaking Dawn’ — Is He Just Jealous?

14 December 2011 12:11 PM, PST | HollywoodLife | See recent HollywoodLife news »

James Franco fought for a role in the 'Twilight' films and lost, so is he taking out his frustration in this scathing review? James Franco was not impressed with The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part One and didn't hold back his frustrations with the film in a recent article for The Paris Review. In his review, the 33-year-old actor tears Twilight apart, reaming it for promoting teenage sex, marriage and pregnancy. Yikes! Here are a couple of the juicier bits from Mr. Franco's verbose critique: "The protagonists finally marry, having waited until the wise old age of eighteen, and since the book and the film dutifully show them being wed, they are then allowed to fuck each others’ brains out. For a film that claims to be sexually responsible, the 'Twilight' movies are awfully dependent on teenage sex to attract viewers," James writes. He then compares Jacob Black to underage pageant queens, »

'The Help' & 'The Artist' Lead The Field At Screen Actors Guild Awards Nominations

14 December 2011 6:36 AM, PST | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

In the seventeen years that they've been running for, the annual Screen Actors' Guild Awards have proven to be a pretty reliable precursor for the acting categories at the Academy Awards. And why shouldn't they? With the actors who nominate their peers for the Oscars overwhelmingly being SAG members, there's always going to be a natural link, and certainly by the time the guild award their prizes, it's a good time to make a bet. In the last few years, they've only missed Penelope Cruz in "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," Marion Cotillard in "La Vie En Rose" and Alan Arkin in "Little Miss Sunshine" as winners, while the nominees tend to match up heavily -- last year, seventeen out of twenty in the acting categories were the same, while all five nominees in the Outstanding Cast category won Oscar nominations.  Whether this pans out this year remains to be seen, but »

'Young Adult' to receive Vanguard Award at Palm Springs fest

13 December 2011 5:59 PM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

We've written before about how the Palm Springs International Film Festival tends to stick very closely to the presumed template of surefire Oscar contenders when picking their honorees. So they've at least gone slightly out on a limb by handing their Vanguard Award for "outstanding creative ensemble" to Jason Reitman's "Young Adult" -- a film already on the fringes in the three awards categories it's aiming for, and one far outside the Best Picture conversation. Reitman took the same award four years ago for a far more broadly popular film, "Juno"; "Little Miss Sunshine" is another previous winner. I'm not sure »

"For a film that claims to be sexually responsible, the Twilight movies are awfully dependent on teenage sex to attract viewers," James Franco, actor/director/writer/student and now film critic, reveals in his write-up of Breaking Dawn - Part 1 in the Paris Review. "The actors prance about like pieces of meat, their disturbingly developed bodies on full display; Taylor Lautner's rippling teenage chest is just a little better than the child beauty-pageant stars at the end of Little Miss Sunshine." James Franco Rips Into Breaking Dawn Over All That “Teenage Sex”

12 December 2011 12:30 PM, PST | TheFabLife - Movies | See recent TheFabLife - Movies news »

James Franco may have once watched a gay prostitute straight-up have sex with a client to prepare for a role (seriously, how was that not a bigger story? He talked about it on Inside the Actor’s Studio!), but that doesn’t mean he’s down with the fictional Breaking Dawn sex scene. In a scathing review for the Paris Review, the Rise of the Planet of the Apes actor tore the latest entry in the Twilight series apart like so many pillows in a honeymoon suite over the supposedly massive amounts of teenage sexuality on display.

“For a film that claims to be sexually responsible, the Twilight movies are awfully dependent on teenage sex to attract viewers,” Franco complains. “The actors prance about like pieces of meat, their disturbingly developed bodies on full display; Taylor Lautner’s rippling teenage chest is just a little better than the child beauty-pageant »

James Franco Slams The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 with Scathing Review

Is there anything James Franco can't, or won't, do? The actor-turned-renaissance man of many hats has taken to film critiscm, and his first review is a slam against The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 and The Descendants.

The actor posted this scathing critique on The Paris Review, where he called Breaking Dawn a greedy franchise that is hypocritical of sex and marriage.

In comparing the two films, this is what James Franco had to say.

"Both use sex as a submerged theme while on the surface promoting a wholesome idea of family values; both seem to devalue motherhood; and both deal with characters who are so financially secure that they are almost impossible to identify with."

The actor then goes onto compare Taylor Lautner's shirtless performance to that of a child beauty pageant.

"The protagonists finally marry, having waited until the wise old age of eighteen, and »
