Sylvester Stallone loves Twitter. Via this most infectious of mediums he’s teased and taunted fans of The Expendables 3 with rumours, speculation and hearsay. He’s the biggest fanboy of the bunch when it comes to spouting off. You can’t deny though, that the hulking grunter of an actor has a playfulness to his Tweets. Just now he posted the following Tweetulation:
Antonio B. …?Could be.

Banderas’ career in Hollywood kickstarted with as the Mariachi-playing badass in 1995′s Desperado. Since then he’s alternated his resume with proper grown up films (Haywire, The Skin I Live In) and awful kiddy drivel (Shrek, Puss In Boots.) He definitely qualifies as a badass suitable to join the line up, although thinking about it…wouldn’t it had been lovely if he’d kicked some more arse instead of becoming one in Shrek? Well, here’s hoping »

And earnings at 7 cents per share beat projections for 3 cents. The company says that The Croods, released on March 22, accounted for $4M in Q1 revenue. Classic Media properties added $27.9M. Dwa says that it has spent $25M so far this year to repurchase 1.3M shares, and is authorized to spend an additional $100M. Catwoman is the ultimate cat lady in this fantastically fun Batman fan art created by Deviant Art artist caanantheartboy. It features Catwoman surrounded by a bunch of other famous cats. The artist lists all of the cats included in the illustration in the following note...
Behind the couch: Krazy Kat, Azrael (Smurfs), Bill the Cat, Felix, Mad Cat (with a Hello Kitty doll), Top Cat and Snowball II. On (and above) the couch: Streaky (who is orange, yes. My bad!) Mooch (Mutts), Stimpy, Mr Kat (Kid vs Kat), Sylvester, Puss in Boots, Figaro. The rest: Tom, Simon's Cat, Nermal, Garfield, Penelope, O'Malley, Marie (I wasn't gonna do All the Aristocats!), Horse (Footrot Flats), the Cheshire Cat, and Bucky and Scratchy behind Batman. The posters are That Darn Cat and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. (I also could have done The Cat from Outer Space, Le Chat Noir, and many others. »

Feature Mark Harrison 25 Mar 2013 - 07:09
The Croods is the latest feature from DreamWorks Animation. But what does the future hold for the studio? Mark takes a look...
Arch your left eyebrow, for a moment. Good. Now, tilt your head to the side. I'll leave the smile up to you, but you must either smirk or give a big cheesy grin. You're now on your way to looking a lot like the DreamWorks Face, the expression that used to appear in pretty much every DreamWorks Animation film, usually on a talking animal of some description.
The thing is, in the past, all of DreamWorks' movies were comedies. It's since the studio has branched out into other genres, while retaining their sense of humour, that we've started sitting up and taking notice again.
For a while there, it looked like DreamWorks Animation had turned into the very corporate machine that it set out to lampoon: Disney. »

Feature Michael Leader 19 Mar 2013 - 07:00
Michael revisits the 1996 incarnation of Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere, a magical BBC series that was ahead of its time...
Spoiler warning: While this article is about a 17-year old TV programme, it inevitably discusses plot points that are also present in the currently-broadcasting radio drama remake.
“Let me tell you a story. No, wait, one’s not enough. I’ll begin again...”
So reads the back-cover blurb of Neil Gaiman’s 2006 short story anthology Fragile Things, but it’s as apt a beginning as any for an expedition back through the knotted overgrowths of time to the author’s 1996 foray into television: the six-part miniseries Neverwhere.
Now, let’s get this out of the way first: there is no single, true ‘Neverwhere’. Like its signature setting, a semi-mythological, hidden version of London that exists below the streets of Britain’s capital, Neverwhere is a »

This story first appeared in the March 29 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. When Antonio Banderas was recording the titular role for DreamWorks Animation's Puss in Boots, he couldn't help but get tongue-tied. The actor had signed on to voice the feline hero in no fewer than five languages: English, Italian, Latin American Spanish, Castilian Spanish and Catalan. "After a while, he would start a line in one language and then slip into a second language in the middle of the line," Dwa head of postproduction Jim Beshears recalls of Banderas' exhausting sessions. "But he had everyone

At the beginning of 2008, only three movies*Titanic, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest*had earned over $1 billion worldwide. Flash forward five years to early 2013, and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has just recently become the 15th title to reach that illustrious milestone. With the addition of 3D ticket pricing and the rapid expansion of the foreign market in areas like China and Russia, reaching $1 billion definitely isn't all that it used to be. Still, it hasn't lost all its prestige, and hitting that mark remains an undeniable sign that a movie is a global sensation. Four 2012 movies reached that coveted level, though only one (Skyfall) was a major surprise. 2013, on the other hand, doesn't have as many obvious choices, and it's therefore unlikely we'll once again see four $1 billion titles. Excluding Jurassic Park*which will obviously pass »

The 85th annual Academy Awards were held on Sunday and "Brave" took the Oscar for Best Animated Film.
"Frankenweenie," "ParaNorman," "The Pirates! Band of Misfits," and "Wreck-It Ralph" were all vying, along with "Brave," for the Best Animated Feature award.
Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman accepted the award for the film.
Disney led the category with three films nominated: "Wreck-It Ralph," "Brave," and "Frankenweenie."
"The fact that we're all nominated in one year is like, whoever wins of that group, I feel like the family wins," "Wreck-It Ralph" director Richard Moore told HuffPost Entertainment earlier this year. "I'm really proud of my film and what we achieved here at the studio."
Best Animated Feature is a young Oscar category, first introduced to the Academy Awards in 2001. "Shrek" took home the inaugural award, beating out "Monsters, Inc." and "Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius." At last year's 84th annual Academy Awards, "Rango" won »

“Puss In Boots,” she told VH1. “Because they have cats, and I would have fur.”

This year's bumper showing proves we're living in a golden age for animation – though three of five nominees hark backwards with stop-motion techniques
Few would argue that we are currently living in a new golden age of animation, one fostered by the arrival of CGI more than a decade ago and now settling confidently into early-middle age. While Pixar, the San Francisco Bay Area-based trend-setter that landed in the mid-90s like a cluster bomb of energy and innovation, has dipped a little quality-wise since that remarkable four-year run in which Ratatouille, Wall-e, Up and Toy Story 3 all arrived in cinemas, its rivals have upped their games dramatically.
Competition for the 2013 Academy Award for best animated film must be the closest in the history of the prize, which was created in 2001 following the radical arrival of Pixar, Dreamworks Animation and others on the scene. Three out of the five »

We first heard about the Despicable Me minions’ spin-off last summer, and as we approach the anticipated release of Despicable Me 2 this summer, we’re starting to get some promising news on next year’s movie.
Deadline report that Sandra Bullock has signed on to voice the lead super-villain, Scarlet Overkill, going against type to play the baddie for this animated feature.
Illumination Entertainment already have an impressive track record since starting back in 2007, launching Despicable Me to success in 2010, and grossing over half a billion dollars. They followed it up with a live-action/animated blend in 2011’s Hop, and returned last year to bring us Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax.
This year, they have Despicable Me 2 coming out, which is sure to be a big hit in the summer. And then all eyes will be turning to those adorable little minions at the end of next year.

DreamWorks Animation Skg, Inc. The film had previously been scheduled for release on November 1, 2013. Me & My Shadow, which had previously been scheduled for release in March of 2014, will now return to development at the studio. “Our distributor, who has had great success in March with their Ice Age franchise, has recommended we move Mr. Peabody & Sherman to the spring of 2014, which we totally agree is a much more advantageous release window,” said Anne Globe, Chief Marketing Officer of DreamWorks Animation. “Mr. Peabody & Sherman is now the first of our three-picture lineup for next year.” The Company’s feature film slate for 2013 and 2014 is now as follows: The Croods on March 22, 2013; Turbo on July 19, 2013; Mr. Peabody & Sherman on March 7, 2014; How To »

It's hard to think about Star Wars without referencing one of its most beloved characters. Who hasn't wondered about the history of Yoda outside of Dagobah or the Jedi Council? I would love to see the time period in which Count Dooku served as his Padawan, or even some great exploit that told us how he came to be ranked among the top Jedis.
So why is it hard to imagine this film going well?
Personally I don't think I could handle 5 straight minutes of oddly structured sentences, let alone an entire film. I'm also not a fan of the lead role in a live action film being completely CGI. Giving too much screen time to a quirky character can dampen the likeability, and perhaps create an annoyance for a majority of film audiences (see Jar Jar Binks). Who would sell a movie like this? Who would watch such a thing? »
