Storyline

Ken, a 23-year-old, is devastated at the death of his father. He decides to commit suicide by jumping into the near-freezing river, but somehow miraculously survived. His mother thinks that the only way to help her depressed son is to send him to his uncle Takuma in Japan. Takuma is in no way like his calm father. He is unpredictable. Furthermore, his idea of moral values is very unconventional, insisting his nephew to occupy himself with drinking sake, having sex after the shock of losing his father. Somehow, all these strange methods manage to rekindle the desire in Ken to live again. Written by Ploy P.

A jewel
4 September 2005 | by (Montreal) – See all my reviews

I saw this movie in the Montreal Film Festival and I was impressed. The director has probably made his best movie so far. A young Canadian who has attempted to commit suicide is going to his uncle in Japan whom he has never met. There he learns to see life in a very different, creative, harmonious way that unfortunately people in the West rarely learn. It is a really wonderful movie in every aspect. The scenario doesn't sound exciting but the viewer never gets bored and is waiting for the next scene. A lesson of sensibility, harmony and beauty. The two great Japanese actors give lessons of acting and the erotic scenes even if they can be characterized as provocative they are certainly beautiful. It will be coming out this December in North America and in Japan. Highly recommended
