An interesting remake of FREAKS that seems to be aimed mostly towards kids
22 February 2009 | by (Bradenton, Florida) – See all my reviews

The overall rating for this short film is about 2.9 and that makes little sense, as it is a well made short. I can't always understand how IMDb tabulates its ratings, but judging only by the numbers you'd think this one is a bomb of epic proportions.

The film begins with an introduction by Alice Cooper--a fitting choice. The story is about two obnoxious kids who are out trick or treating. When they come to the Sideshow, the older of the two makes some nasty remarks about wanting to come inside to gawk at the freaks! She's 100% tacky and you know that eventually they'll get their comeuppance for their insensitivity--though, oddly, the boy is the target of their wrath even though the girl is clearly more in need of a lesson!

The film is a rather obvious remake of FREAKS--the Tod Browning classic from 1932. Because it is a remake of a great film (probably one of the scariest films ever made), I just can't agree with the review that gives it a 10. An obvious remake should never merit a 10. Now it isn't like the folks who made the film were ripping off FREAKS--it seems more like a homage that was shortened and designed for kids. If most young kids (even today) saw FREAKS, they'd probably need therapy, but this is more like a morality tale in the vein of "Goosebumps". Campy, silly and fun.
