Huo Yuanjia [English: Fearless] is loosely based on the life of Huo Yuanjia [c.1868-1910], a legendary Chinese martial artist. The screenplay was written by Chinese director Ronny Yu.

In the States, three different versions of this Jet Li flick were released on different occasions. For the cinematical run the movie was cut and got a PG-13 rating. Later on, it was published on DVD as a Unrated Edition, that features the uncut international Theatrical version. A detailed comparison between both versions with pictures can be found here. The third version available in the States is the Director's Cut, that was released nearly two years later on DVD and features a cut of this movie that is nearly 40 minutes longer than the uncut Theatrical version. A detailed comparison between these versions with pictures can be found here. To make things even more complicated, there's a special thai cut of this movie, featuring scenes not available in any other version and then, there's the Hongkong theatrical version, that is slightly different in comparison to the international theatrical version.
