13 April 2013 6:30 AM, PDT | TheFabLife - Movies | See recent TheFabLife - Movies news »

With the release of 42 starring Harrison Ford and Chadwick Boseman as Jackie Robinson, we look back on the best films that told the true stories of athletes that challenged the system. Many greats have overcame adversity to become the legends they are today. Check out who made the list and let us know who we forgot.

10. Invincible (2006)

Mark Wahlberg’s first entry on this list is as Vince Papale, a longtime Eagles fan who makes a go at open tryouts. The 30-year-old player is tested as he attempts to gain the acceptance of the team and the city’s devout fans.

9. Soul Surfer (2011)

The sole female sports biopic on the list is about surfer Bethany Hamilton who lost her arm in a shark attack. Despite her loss, she refuses to give up surfing. The film starring AnnaSophia Robb was the more, serious and at times cheesier version of Blue Crush. »

Point Break Remake Lands a Director

11 April 2013 3:00 PM, PDT | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

It's been awhile since we've heard any news on the Point Break remake being developed by Alcon Entertainment, but the production company has hired Invincible cinematographer Ericson Core to direct the film.

The new version is set in the world of international extreme sports, and like the original involves an undercover FBI agent infiltrating a criminal ring. I'm sure they're going to try to make this movie as extreme and over the top as possible. It'll either be ridiculously fun like the original or flat out stupid like most remakes end up being.

The original 1991 film is a classic, and a movie I can't help but watch whenever I come across it. It was directed by Kathryn Bigelow and starred Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze. It will be interesting to see how this remake turns out, but I'm not getting my hopes up. This is one of those films that »

'Point Break' Remake Has Its Director, Uh-Oh

11 April 2013 12:36 PM, PDT | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

If you just so happen to be one of those nostalgic-for-the-'90s nerds, first of all heyheyheeeeeey, and second we've got some potentially distressing movie news surfing your way today.

Might as well go ahead and accept it that the "Point Break" remake is happening, dudes and dudettes, because a director has now been selected for the unnecessary and unwanted flick.

Per Deadline, Ericson Core of "Invincible" (and various turns as a cinematographer) note, is taking the reins of this project, hoping to reinvigorate that "handsome undercover cop unwittingly buddies up with the somehow ethical perp who's been right under his nose the whole time" scenario. As a feather in the guy's hat, one of his camera-working credits was on the near-equally plot derivative "The Fast and the Furious."

This reboot has been knocking around in limbo since Warner Bros. and Alcon teamed up for it in fall, 2011, which gave »

'Point Break' Remake: Ericson Core Signs On to Direct

11 April 2013 11:58 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

The “Point Break” remake is officially happening: studio Alcon announced it's found its director for the project, Ericson Core. The reboot of the 1991 cult classic -- starring Keanu Reeves as an FBI agent who goes undercover with a group of bank robbing surfers led by Patrick Swayze -- was announced in late 2011, but hadn't made many waves since then. Now, Core is on board, as is screenwriter Kurt Wimmer. Core is best known for his work as a cinematographer on films like “The Fast and the Furious” and “Daredevil,” and made his directorial debut in 2006 with the Mark Wahlberg vehicle “Invincible.” Wimmer has plenty of experience with the action genre, too, having co-written last year's “Total Recall” remake, in addition to penning “Salt” and “Law Abiding Citizen.” Those chops should come in handy on “Point Break,” though both men have some big shoes to fill. The original was directed by the then-up-and-comer Kathryn Bigelow, »

"The new version of the film is set in the world of international extreme sports, and like the original involves an undercover FBI agent infiltrating a criminal ring," a press release for the movie reads. "The filmmakers are keeping other plot points under wraps."

'Fast & Furious' Cinematographer to Direct the 'Point Break' Remake

11 April 2013 9:49 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Back in September of 2011, we heard that Alcon Entertainment was looking at a remake of Kathryn Bigelow's 1991 action thriller Point Break, a sort of modern classic in the genre starring Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves. While we thought the idea might have fallen to the wayside, a press release from Alcon has announced that Ericson Core, the director of photography from The Fast and the Furious (the first film from 2001) and Daredevil and director of the sports drama Invincible, has been hired to direct the film that has become a genre classic. We know the story from the original, but how will this remake be different? As of now, we don't really have any details. The press release says, "The new version of the film is set in the world of international extreme sports, and like the original involves an undercover FBI agent infiltrating a criminal ring." Point Break Remake Has Found Its Director

11 April 2013 7:45 AM, PDT | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

In 2011, we learned of plans to remake Point Break. Time passed and we thought nothing of it, assuming that rebooting Point Break is just something people say. However, it seems like this thing will actually happen, as Ericson Core has been brought on to direct. Core directed the 2006 Mark Wahlberg football movie, Invincible, and nothing since, save a USA pilot. He did serve as the director of photography on The Fast and the Furious and Daredevil, but he really hasn't been doing anything recently. Despite this, if the first Point Break is any indication, in twenty years, he'll win an Oscar for Best Director. »

Point Break Remake Gets A Director

11 April 2013 6:48 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Kathryn Bigelow’s Point Break is one of the most exciting action films of all time, and is home to one of the late Patrick Swayze’s most memorable performances. It also holds up extremely well today, and will likely thrill audiences for many years to come. That means it should be immune from the horrors of a Hollywood remake right? Wrong. Now, not only is the remake happening, but Ericson Core has been announced as director, meaning things are actually in motion.

I’m aware this is probably just about the worst news you could hear this morning, and I’m truly sorry to have to bring it to you. Core, who is most notably a cinematographer, made his directorial debut with the utterly mediocre football film, Invincible. Nevertheless, production is supposed to get underway on this remake by the end of the year.

‘Point Break’ Remake Lands A Director

The idea of a remake to Kathryn Bigelow’s action-thriller Point Break has our founder Paul Heath in a state of panic. His love for everything Patrick Swayze means those who go near anything connected to his dearly departed icon, must do him justice. On that point, the reboot of the 1991 classic, which saw Swayze as the leader of a bank robbing surfing squad, infiltrated by rookie FBI agent Keanu Reeves, has finally confirmed a director.

The Fast & The Furious cinematographer-turned-director Ericson Core, will take charge of the movie for Alcon Entertainment, it was announced today by the company’s CEO’s Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove. It will mark only Core’s second feature film following 2006 fact-based sports drama, Invincible, which starred Mark Wahlberg. The update will be set in the world of international extreme sports, and again will involve an undercover FBI agent joining the criminal gang.

New ‘Point Break’ Has a Director Who Could Make it a Worthy Remake

11 April 2013 6:00 AM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Point Break could use a remake. It’s a fun, ridiculous action movie laced with 80s excess, but beyond nostalgia glasses, its hardly sacred ground. Plus, what is Point Break at its core anyway? A heist movie punctuated by adrenaline and a cop who gets too close to the wrong side of the law. Inasmuch, it gets remade several times every single year (except without the extreme sports angle). We’ve known that Alcon and Warners have been plotting to remake the 1991 movie since 2011 with a script from Kurt Wimmer (after bailing on a truly bizarre sequel concept from Jan De Bont), and now Deadline Hollywood is reporting that they’ve secured Ericson Core to direct. Despite having a name that sounds like a cell phone, Core has done some strong work as a Dp (PaybackThe Fast and the Furious) and his one previous shot as a director, Invincible, was »

100 percent pure bullshit! Point Break Remake Gets Director and Plot Details

Alcon Entertainment has been talking about a sequel to Kathryn Bigelow's 1991 "Point Break" film, starring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze, since 2007. And now comes word that the company will instead develop a remake and has signed Ericson Core to direct the new movie. Core last directed Mark Wahlberg's "Invincible" football film. He was also the cinematographer on such movies as "Fast and Furious" and Ben Affleck's "Daredevil." Other contenders for the job were "The Dark Knight" cinematographer Wally Pfister and Peter Iliff, who wrote the first movie. Kurt Wimmer (Total Recall, Law Abiding Citizen) wrote the script for the "Point Break" remake, which will be set in the international world of extreme sports and will once again focus on an FBI agent infiltrating a crime ring. 'Point Break' remake gets director Ericson Core

11 April 2013 2:22 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

Ericson Core will direct the remake of Point Break.

Alcon Entertainment has been developing a reworked version of Kathryn Bigelow's 1991 action thriller for the past two years, and has now appointed Core, whose last directing credit was 2006 football biopic Invincible.

Alcon producer Andrew Kosove has previously explained to The Playlist that their version will not be a literal remake of the first film, which starred Keanu Reeves as an FBI agent who goes undercover in a gang of criminal surfers.

Patrick Swayze co-starred as the gang's charismatic leader Bodhi.

Reeves has credited his role in Point Break with making him a star.

Scripted by Kurt Wimmer (Total Recall, Salt), the remake will be set in the world of international extreme sports, and will again centre on an undercover FBI agent infiltrating a criminal ring.

Point Break remake on the way

A cult classic, and one of the best action movie the 90's has to offer, Kathryn Bigelow's Point Break is the latest to be put through The Hollywood Remake Machine, as announced by Alcon Entertainment. This new version by will be helmed Ericson Core, who, before making his directing debut with Mark Wahlberg starring bio-pic Invincible (a movie I've never heard of till now), started out as cinematographer on The Fast And The Furious, which owes a lot to Point Break. The remake keeps the basic story of an FBI agent infiltrating a criminal ring, but ditches the surf culture setting for the world of international extreme sports (I don't get this, as Point Break is in reference to a surfing term, and doesn't make sense in any other context). There is no word yet on who will take over from Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves as Bodhi and Johnny Utah, »

Point Break Remake Has A Director

Perhaps mindful that Fast & Furious 6 is almost with us, and with some news about Fast 7 breaking just this morning, Alcon Entertainment have piped up with some information to remind the world that their Point Break remake is still happening. In development for years, we already knew it had a screenplay by Salt's Kurt Wimmer, but the new version of the most bodacious surfing, skydiving, foot-chasing heist movie now has a director, in the form of the awesomely-named Ericson Core.Core is a cinematographer, with credits on - here's that name again - The Fast And The Furious, Payback and Daredevil. As a director, he's helmed episodes of Family Law, and decent American football feature Invincible with Mark Wahlberg.Core's currently attached to a mafia action thriller called Fair Trade, but its status is unclear (the IMDb lists it in pre-production, but there's no cast yet).
