Ben Stiller to Direct Jonah Hill in Adaptation of Sundance-Winning Documentary ‘We Live in Public’ — Sundance 2018
Ondi Timoner’s 2009 Sundance Grand Jury Prize-winning documentary, “We Live in Public,” will become a feature film directed by Ben Stiller and starring Jonah Hill as Josh Harris, the dot-com millionaire who carried out a surveillance experiment with 150 residents at a Manhattan hotel amid Y2K panic.

Bold Films will finance the project, which Timoner will produce with Stiller’s Red Hour Films. Timoner announced the project during an interview at a January 20, Dell-sponsored panel, “Life After Sundance — Building a Career in Indie Filmmaking.”

Timoner also briefly discussed “Mapplethorpe,” her just-completed biopic of Robert Mapplethorpe with “The Crown” star Matt Smith in the lead. She said Sundance accepted the film for the 2018 festival, but it hit “a bump” that prevented its screening.

Sorry, Nancy Kerrigan Has No Interest in Seeing I, Tonya: "I Was the Victim"

Image Source: Getty / David Madison The award season buzz around Craig Gillespie's Tonya Harding biopic I, Tonya has been building for a while, especially now that lead Margot Robbie took home a Critics' Choice award for her performance as the infamous figure skater. Although Hollywood might be charmed by the dark, comedic take on the 1994 scandal - which involved a man hired by Harding's ex-husband, Jeff Gillooly, bashing fellow figure skater Nancy Kerrigan's knee with a baton - Kerrigan herself is decidedly not a fan. In fact, she'd appreciate it if you stopped asking her if she plans on seeing I, Tonya, Ok? "I really have nothing to say about it. I haven't seen anything. I haven't watched anything," she said during a phone interview with The Boston Globe. "I've been busy. I was at the national [figure skating] championships this week so I didn't watch the Golden Globes. I haven't seen the movie.

Training Margot Robbie to Be ‘I, Tonya’: Skating Choreographer Sarah Kawahara Tells All

Training Margot Robbie to Be ‘I, Tonya’: Skating Choreographer Sarah Kawahara Tells All
Portraying Tonya Harding required Margot Robbie to find empathy for a villianized woman, to balance comedy and pathos — and, to believably land a triple axel, the move that made Harding famous before she was infamous. However, Robbie was raised in Dalby, Australia, a coastal town where temperatures rarely go below freezing.

Now the Neon/30 West release is a specialty hit, and Robbie has become a Golden Globe and SAG Award nominee with a litany of gravity-defying onscreen spins. Credit for that transformation goes to choreographer and former Ice Capades skater Sarah Kawahara, who also served as onetime choreographer for Harding’s nemesis, Nancy Kerrigan.

Kawahara’s choreography subjects include Peggy Fleming, the 2002 Olympics opening ceremony, and Will Ferrell in “Blades of Glory.” She said the 1994 attack on Kerrigan had a huge impact on her career. “It changed the face of skating,” she told IndieWire in a recent phone interview. “All

Napa Valley Film Festival Rises After Fires Devastate Region

Napa Valley Film Festival Rises After Fires Devastate Region
Watching as Northern California’s wine country became engulfed by flames that scorched 220,000 acres and claimed the lives of 42 people, Napa Valley Film Festival co-founders and directors Marc and Brenda Lhormer teetered on the brink of canceling this year’s fete.

“During the first days, we only were hearing and fearing the worst,” says Marc Lhormer of unfounded rumors that partner wineries and hotels had been destroyed. “Brenda and I actually left our home and, living out of a suitcase for nine nights, kept moving things forward.”

He adds that two days after the fires erupted, the couple gathered their team. “We went around the room asking if everyone, and their families and loved ones, was Ok, and we discussed how we could help each other. Then, we had to determine if we were all mentally and physically up for putting on the show, a show everyone had worked so hard on, full time, all

Will Ferrell Reveals Elements Of The ‘Step Brothers’ Sequel Idea

In 2008, coming off back-to-back critical and box-office disappointments with “Semi-Pro” and “Blades of Glory,” Will Ferrell looked a little down and out. He returned to his writer/director buddy Adam McKay for “Step Brothers,” a film that reteamed him with his “Talladega Nights: the Ballad of Ricky Bobby” co-star John C. Reilly.

The Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan Scandal Is Still Completely Unsettling, Even 2 Decades Later
Jan. 6, 1994, continues to be known as the day one of the biggest sports scandals in American history took place. Olympians Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan were preparing for their second Games together when Kerrigan was attacked - but was Harding involved? She holds onto her innocence to this day. Multiple documentaries have been made on the incident, and now Margot Robbie will star in Hollywood's big-budget film I, Tonya, set to hit theaters on Dec. 8. The scandal occurred over 20 years ago, yet the movie offers a new reason to revisit the case. In a time when some women choose to tear each other down for the sake of their own careers and relationships, the movie will surely open a fresh perspective. Their Relationship Harding was the first American woman to land a triple axel (the name just sounds difficult in itself) in the 1991 Us Figure Skating Championships. She ended up

‘The House,’ ‘Rough Night’ and Why the R-Rated, Raunchy Comedy’s Box Office Partying Days Might Be Over

‘The House,’ ‘Rough Night’ and Why the R-Rated, Raunchy Comedy’s Box Office Partying Days Might Be Over
In the near decade since “The Hangover” earned over half a billion dollars worldwide, R-rated comedies have chased the sensation, but few have come close.

This summer has been especially punishing for adult comedies. Most recently, “The House,” starring Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler as a couple that starts an underground casino to put their daughter through college, opened to only $9 million. Two weekends before, Scarlett Johansson’s “Rough Night” opened to $8 million domestic. Not even Dwayne Johnson’s constant Twitter chatter could save “Baywatch” from flopping over Memorial Day weekend, and a similar story applied a few weeks prior to Amy Schumer’s “Snatched.” Four R-rated comedies so far this summer, and four less-than-stellar openings — where did the appetite go?

‘The House’ Review: Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler’s Unfunny Comedy Is a Bizarre Endurance Test

‘The House’ Review: Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler’s Unfunny Comedy Is a Bizarre Endurance Test
Anyone who thinks the house always wins hasn’t seen “The House.” Not that anyone who goes to see this movie, ostensibly a comedy but in reality a bizarre endurance test, wins either — Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler’s latest is a zero-sum game in which the odds are never in your favor.

After learning that the scholarship that was going to send their daughter to college no longer exists, the happily married couple played by Ferrell and Poehler do what any caring parents would do: start an illegal casino in their friend’s (Jason Mantzoukas) house. That most of the patrons they aim to get rich off of are their neighbors and friends never seems to be an issue, nor is it the source of either comedy or tension.

Film Review: Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler in ‘The House’

Film Review: Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler in ‘The House’
At times, you watch a bad comedy and see hints of the good comedy it might have been. In the case of “The House,” a crude, slipshod, tonally uneven, once in a while chuckle-worthy farce, you have to look very hard and imagine a great many better jokes — just what the film’s co-writer and director, Andrew Jay Cohen, should have been doing.

The House” stars Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler, who were last teamed together in “Blades of Glory” (2007), as a stuck-in-a-rut suburban couple who open an illegal casino to pay for their daughter’s college tuition. It’s one of those concept comedies built around a sketchbook frame that asks its stars to do a fair amount of improvising — a technique that turns the shooting of a movie into a glorified pitch meeting, since the whole thing is predicated on the premise of “Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler! Are you kidding me?
