‘Bad Moms’ Producer Suzanne Todd: Why the Veteran Producer Likes Staying Outside the Box

2 August 2016 6:38 AM, PDT | Thompson on Hollywood | See recent Thompson on Hollywood news »

Many in Hollywood pair Suzanne Todd with her younger sister and producing partner Jennifer, long known as Team Todd. They produced a raft of movies together, many at freewheeling New Line Cinema, including teen coming-of-age classic “Now and Then” and Mike Meyers’ Austin Powers franchise. They also put on the map Christopher Nolan (“Memento”) and Ben Younger (“Boiler Room”). And while they both produced Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” with Joe Roth at Disney, for its sequel “Through the Looking Glass,” Jennifer was busy running Pearl Street Films, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s production company, while Suzanne carried on with the “Alice” sequel. And so she went solo on “Bad Moms,” which Stx opened well this weekend.

‘Swiss Army Man’ Directors on How Their Film is the Opposite of ‘The Revenant’

1 July 2016 12:07 PM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

It would not be unfair to call Swiss Army Man “the movie about the farting corpse with the boner,” because that is the perfect description of Manny (Daniel Radcliffe), one of its two lead characters (the other is love-torn Hank played by Paul Dano). What would be unfair is to only call it that, because it’s actually one of the most unexpectedly sensitive films of 2016.

As directed by the Daniels (Kwan and Scheinert) the film combines the best of buddy films, mumblecore aesthetics and unexpected romance to become something that defies genre and what’s politically correct on film. Needless to say so, it’s a delightful surprise and perfect counter-programming for a season so marked by how alike everything looks. Whether you like the film or not, the true thing is that you won’t be able to get it out of your mind for quite some time. »

'Feed the Beast' Series Review: Genuine Performances Compensate for this Surprising Problem

4 June 2016 10:30 PM, PDT | buddytv.com | See recent BuddyTV news »

Fresh off of his success on the critically-acclaimed FX drama The People v. Oj Simpson, the Friends veteran David Schwimmer has teamed up with Jim Sturgess (Across the Universe, 21) for another dark drama.

AMC's Feed the Beast tells the story of two friends as close as brothers who are down on their luck and decide to open a restaurant together. The initial plot of the series is a little strange in how it taps into many different ideas, but performances from the likes of Schwimmer and Sturgess are enough to make you want to ride it out for at least a little while. Check out our review of the new AMC series, Feed the Beast.

'Feed the Beast': Everything You Need to Know

3 June 2016 8:51 AM, PDT | Rollingstone.com | See recent Rolling Stone news »

Ever since AMC debuted Mad Men in July of 2007, TV aficionados have learned to keep an eye on what the channel slips onto the air during the dog days. Past summers have brought the likes of Humans and Halt and Catch Fire; the same time frame also brought us Rubicon, because hey, nobody's perfect. This year's contender for possible out-of-left-field Mvp is Feed the Beast: a drama about crime and cuisine starring Jim Sturgess as a coked-up ex-con chef and David Schwimmer as his morose sommelier best friend. On this day in pop culture history: ‘Top Gun’ premiered, ‘Seinfeld’ killed Susan

16 May 2016 6:00 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

30 years ago today, Navy fighter pilot hotshots Maverick, Iceman, and Goose first flew across big screens around the world. It was on May 16, 1986 that Top Gun opened in theaters. Already well on his way to becoming a household name thanks to 1983’s Risky Business, Tom Cruise became a certified movie star with the release of Top Gun. It was also the first hit for director Tony Scott, who went on to direct other action flicks and thrillers like Crimson Tide, Man on Fire, and Déjà Vu (which reunited him with Top Gun star Val Kilmer) before his death in 2012. Top Gun, a slick, upbeat, Reagan-era ode to masculinity, boasted a memorable soundtrack (with Berlin’s “Take My Breath Away” and Kenny Loggins’ “Danger Zone”), impressive dogfights, an endlessly quotable though often goofy script, and, upon its release, immediate box office success. It became the highest grossing movie of 1986. Also on this day, »
