Sturgess and Dunst Turn 'Upside Down' for Juan Solanas

The Argentinean/French filmmaker will start lensing his sci-fi romance with the pairing of Jim Sturgess (Across the Universe) and Kristen Dunst. - I jumped the gun earlier this year, thinking that Juan Solanas (Nordeste) was well on his way with his sophomore project, when in fact, no actors had signed on the dotted line. Today comes word (via Production Weekly) that the Argentinean/French filmmaker will start lensing his sci-fi romance with the pairing of Jim Sturgess (Across the Universe) and Kristen Dunst. Sturgess takes over for the role that Emile Hirsch was in negotiations for. I can't think of many examples where the blend of sci-fi and romance actually work - the last sample I saw was the overly-ambitious and tedious Mr.Nobody.
Upside Down tells the story Adam is a seemingly ordinary guy in a very extraordinary universe. He lives humbly trying to make ends meet,

Yahoo! Movies has premiered a new trailer for Breck Eisner’s remake of George Romero’s 1973 horror film, The Crazies. The film stars Timothy Olyphant (Deadwood), Radha Mitchell (Surrogates), Joe Anderson (Across the Universe), and Danielle Panabaker (Friday the 13th, 2009) as the unfortunate residents of a town where residents are inexplicably turning, to quote Robert Downey Jr. in Zodiac, “a tad bit fuckered in the head.” I was lucky enough to get to go to the set this past March where I saw some cool stuff, especially in terms of the special effects make-up, which is important when you’re making a gruesome horror movie. You can click here to read my full set report where I go in depth about the make-up and how time stops when in you’re in a high school classroom no matter how old you are.

In the new issue of Entertainment Weekly now on newsstands, you’ll find a story written by yours truly in which I geek out on my new TV obsession, the ABC sci-fi drama FlashForward. If you’re new to the show, here’s what you need to know: On Oct. 6, the planet blacked out and for 2 minutes and 17 seconds, and everyone on earth saw a brief vision of their respective futures. The saga’s center is FBI agent Mark Benford (Shakespeare In Love’s Joseph Fiennes), who during his brief quantum leap saw himself investigating an elaborate conspiracy behind mankind’s perplexing power nap.

Director Julie Taymor Unveils Broadway's Spider-Man

It will not be Jim Sturgess slinging webs on Broadway in the new comic book musical Spider-Man Turn of the Dark. Instead, director Julie Taymor (Across the Universe) has hired another young actor she recently cast in a film version of Shakespeare's The Tempest. Reeve Carney will play Peter Parker to Evan Rachel Wood's Mary Jane Watson, and here's a look at the 26-year-old actor.
In addition to acting, Carney is the lead singer of a band that features his last name, and is the final piece of the puzzle to the 2010 Marvel musical, which will open at the Hilton Theatre in New York in a few months. “Having recently finished shooting The Tempest with Reeve as the young prince, I am thrilled to cast him in an entirely different role as Peter Parker in Spider-Man," Taymor said in a statement.
"When I first saw Reeve, he was performing with his terrific band Carney.

I will watch anything “Beatles”-related. I suffered through the entirety of “Across the Universe” because I love them so much. If “Batman: Arkham Asylum” had Beatles songs it would be my favorite game of the year by far. So even though I’m slightly wary of this tale, I will not miss “Nowhere Boy” because it’s a tale of how the Beatles came together…or not. I don’t know if they’ll include George Harrison or if the reference to the “Buddy Holly”-look John sports at one point in the trailer is to how Stuart Sutcliffe, the band’s original drummer, suggested the name based off “Buddy Holly and the Crickets”. I know that this is about the origin of John Lennon. All I’m saying is that if this movie isn’t 100% historically accurate I’ll 100% hate it. I try to put the “maniac” into

Jim Sturgess and Kirsten Dunst Star in Upside Down

Jim Sturgess, last seen onscreen in the indie drama Crossing Over, has joined Kirsten Dunst to star in Upside Down, a sci-fi film set up at Onyx Films. According to Variety, Upside Down will have a Romeo and Juliet vibe.
Cinematographer Juan Diego Solanas wrote the script and will be directing the film. Shooting is reportedly set to begin in February in Montreal. If so, this may be a tight squeeze for Dunst who will be starting work on Spider-Man 4 in March, if the fourth Spider-Man movie continues on its current schedule.
Dunst recently wrapped work on All Good Things with Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Ryan Gosling and based on an unsolved New York murder case. Sturgess just completed work on Peter Weir's The Way Back, a fact-based drama set in Siberia. Sturgess is also part of the voice cast of Zack Snyder's first animated film, Guardians of Ga'Hoole,

In Mira Nair's latest film, Amelia, a biopic about pioneering aviator Amelia Earhart, Joe Anderson plays Wilmer "Bill" Stultz, the pilot who helmed the first transatlantic crossing with a female passenger-Earhart-in 1928, despite his belief that a woman's place was not in the cockpit. Anderson, though, had no such qualms about flying alongside Hilary Swank, who plays Earhart in the film, as the two actors reenacted the 20-plus-hour, near-freezing flight. "Most of the time, we were sweating our asses off in leather jumpsuits, pretending to be cold," says the 27-year-old British-born Anderson, who drew attention a couple of years ago for his performances in a pair of choice indies about rock bands: Julie Taymor's valentine to the Beatles, Across the Universe, and Anton Corbijn's ode to Joy Division, Control. In addition to Amelia, Anderson recently completed Rogue's Gallery, a political satire produced by Richard Kelly, as well as The Crazies,

He played a British-Jewish atheist in Crossing Over, while he was a student at M.I.T who turned casino gambler in 21. In Fifty Dead Men Walking, he was a British government spy and a most wanted man by the Ira. In Heartless, he's a young man with a large heart-shaped birthmark on his face, who soon discovers that there are demons on the streets of East London. Yup, he never duplicates his roles and you can see for yourself the diversity of the films he made in such a short span of time.

But before the roles I've mentioned, it was in Across the Universe that Jim Sturgess first entered the scene. Apparently, there's no stopping Jim from becoming today's most sought-after actor. Even Film journalist and critic Anne Thompson is starstruck!

Jim Sturgess And Kirsten Dunst Go Upside Down

Jim Sturgess and Kirsten Dunst make an awkward couple. I.m a fan of Across the Universe and even though 21 isn.t a quality film, Sturgess still shows he.s harboring major potential. On the other hand, Dunst is still as washed out as when she sported Mary Jane.s red locks in the Spider-Man movies.
According to Slash Film, the two will team up for Juan Diego Solanas. Upside Down. The concept is rather complicated, so here.s the synopsis straight from the 2009 European Film Market Brochure:
Look up towards the sky and rub your eyes because you won.t believe what you see: cities, forests, and oceans with their own inverted gravity, only an arm.s length away, yet completely unreachable. Take a leap over to this alternate reality, two worlds . one above, one below - facing each other, and you.ll land in the extraordinary world of

Cinema is filled with multi-talented young actors who bring to life all types of characters. Sometimes, a role is given to the wrong guy - just because he has the looks (pin-up pretty, looks awesome wearing trunks) and the connection (a powerful talent agent at his side). But when the role is given to the right guy - moviegoers get to witness something unique, memorable and powerful, even magical. Anyway, even the 'right guy' needs an agent, of course...

Underrated versus Overrated: If you've watched Jumper, then you'll notice the difference between Jamie Bell and Hayden Christensen - Bell has undeniable screen presence, I can't say the same with Hayden. It could have been different if Tom Sturridge was retained to play Hayden's part. Anyway, who am I to argue? Christensen has more box office appeal than the relatively unknown Sturridge, but acting-wise?
