This was produced by game show kings Goodson & Todman, who were always trying to get into other genres, but this is evidence of why they had a hard time achieving that. In the pitch that Graves gives, talking to the potential sponsor who would see such pilots, he talks about how the show will, for the first time, look at the exciting world of Vegas, with all the luxury, elegance and high powered entertainment that city represents. But outside of stock footage, the only real LV scene was a parking lot at the edge of a busy street, and the rest was all studio sets. Graves also promises "Las Vegas Beat" will explore deeply the real human characters that will be such an important part of the series. However, the lot of them are utterly standard TV Cop show characters, like the perfect, young, handsome and worldly ex-cop/private eye lead, his gorgeous, blonde model/writer girlfriend, colorless but ethnic gofer named Gopher, and annoying fakes, that no human ever was, like the investigator cohort that seems drunk, yet oozes highbrow poetry. There's no chemistry between any of them. Overall the whole thing is top loaded with slow talking and explaining, though it has enough shooting deaths for even Peter Gunn to sit up and take notice.
