All the cars that were pushed into the sea, were actually re-painted scrap. After the filming, they were lifted up and sold.

The fire on the ferry was created using lint, black oil and white and black smoke-bombs from the Soviet Army.
When the Volga was pushed into the water, it did not want to sink - the engine had been taken out and the body was too light.
