Storyline

Comedy taking place in Toronto circa 1964 about a CBC variety show called "It's Ruby and Kip" which stars married/divorced/re-married TV couple Kip Delaney, and Ruby Kendall (played by real-life husband and wife Colin Mochrie and Debra McGrath). The show was once the number one rated show in Canada, but has slipped hard in the ratings as of recent, and their producer wants the show to tank the whole way. Ruby is the focal point of the show, while Kip is merely the piano player (making them essentially a 1960s Canadian 'Captain and Tenille'). Add to it their squabbling when off the camera (while trying to maintain a positive image ON camera), and the problems others involved with the show have, and you have for one good time. "Getting Along" gets laughs...but not picked up.
16 December 2005 | by (Urbana, Illinois) – See all my reviews

I was lucky enough to be in Canada when this special premiered and was very entertained. Colin Mocherie and his real life wife and comedienne Debra McGrath play a married songwriter/singer duo who star in a 1960's variety show on Canadian TV. Oh yeah, and Colin's a pothead, their dresser is gay, the producer is out to sink the show, the president of the network speaks through a dog puppet, and Debra pads her bum.

I think the reason this show didn't fly was the fact that of the three other people I watched the show with, I was the only one who really liked it = not for all demographics. But with the witty dialogue and running gags, awesome period costumes/set, and hilarious musical sequences, I think it deserved a chance to fly.
