Pretty good
26 November 2008 | by (Bradenton, Florida) – See all my reviews

The film begins with a violent prisoner being dumped down a tube into a sewer-like prison. Rather quickly it becomes apparent that he's got no scruples--and he will do anything to survive. Soon, he meets up with two political prisoners and they work together to try to find an exit and avoid being eaten by a monster that may live there as well.

The idea behind CHTHONIA isn't exactly brand new. Films like ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, RUNNING MAN and other sci-fi films have been set in a dystopian society where a repressive government sentences its dissidents and run of the mill prisoners to a hellish alternative to traditional prison. However, for a low budget film made by inexperienced film makers, this is a very good film. Danny Borque pretty much did it all in this film other than act and for a fourth short film, it is exceptional. I recently saw one of his other films, THE TOASTER THAT TOASTED GOLDEN TOAST, and was also impressed.
