Storyline

FtF: female to femme makes use of parody and costuming much the way femme does: to create a saucy, indelible impression of a people and a politics central to the gender revolution. Satirical?
14 March 2009 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

I was really hoping that this film was satirical. I still hope that perhaps it is, but it doesn't mention that in the description here. If this was a serious documentary then : Basically it scared me. It scared me to hear some of the strange and shallow things these women were saying. For example, in one scene the ftf counselor talks about having somewhat of an epiphany over shoes. They were on sale and she was so excited about buying them and it just opened her eyes somehow. I was appalled. Now I'm fine with being femme, love femmes. But why did they just skim the surface by saying stuff like "I'm a girl so I decided I'm gonna carry a purse." That's great and everything but why not just make the message BE WHO YOU ARE! If you're femme be femme. If you're butch be butch. If you're purple and eat rainbows...well you know. I was just disappointed really. That is IF this was serious. And as I said before, I'm rooting for satire.
