Tourists Arrested in Kazakhstan for Wearing ‘Borat’ Mankinis (Photo)
There’s super fans, and then there’s these guys.

Six Czech tourists decided to dress up in “mankinis” and black wigs to emulate Sacha Baron Cohen in “Borat” when on vacation in Astana, Kazakhstan, the Associated Press reported Wednesday.

The cosplay didn’t turn out as well as the men might have hoped, however. The tourists’ lime green suits attracted the attention of local police while the group attempted to pose in front of the “I Love Astana” sign for a photo op.

The 100 Greatest Comedies of All-Time, According to BBC’s Critics Poll

After polling critics from around the world for the greatest American films of all-time, BBC has now forged ahead in the attempt to get a consensus on the best comedies of all-time. After polling 253 film critics, including 118 women and 135 men, from 52 countries and six continents a simple, the list of the 100 greatest is now here.

Featuring canonical classics such as Some Like It Hot, Dr. Strangelove, Annie Hall, Duck Soup, Playtime, and more in the top 10, there’s some interesting observations looking at the rest of the list. Toni Erdmann is the most recent inclusion, while the highest Wes Anderson pick is The Royal Tenenbaums. There’s also a healthy dose of Chaplin and Lubitsch with four films each, and the recently departed Jerry Lewis has a pair of inclusions.

Check out the list below (and my ballot) and see more on their official site.

Cannes: Larry Charles Teaming With Luke and Owen Wilson on Prison Comedy (Exclusive)
Borat director Larry Charles and the Wilson brothers are teaming up on a broad comedy that will co-star Martin Lawrence and Olivia Munn. Luke Wilson will star as Howie Summers, a man, falsely accused of a bank robbery, who, thanks to his criminally incompetent lawyer (Owen Wilson) finds himself serving a life sentence in prison. On the advice of his cellmate Slick (Lawrence), he finds a wife on the outside and marries the seemingly sweet, demure woman. When, shortly afterwards, Howie is exonerated, he suddenly finds himself married to a woman he barely knows. Luke Wilson co-wrote the

8 Movies With Ridiculously Long Titles

  • Cinelinx
Some titles just grab your attention and these long-winded, verbose movie titles are certainly unique. Here are 9 movie titles that are hard to say in one breath.

Honorable Mention: “The Fable of the Kid Who Shifted His Ideals to Golf and Finally Became a Baseball Fan and Took the Only Known Cure” (1916)—23 words

This one actually has the longest movie title ever written, but since it’s just a short rather than a full-length film, it doesn’t count. I’m not clear on what the plot of this was but it’s a short silent comedy about baseball.

1.“The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” (2007)—10 Words

This title pretty much sums up the whole movie. If you watch this, you will not be surprised by what happens to Jesse and who kills him. Actually, it’s a pretty good movie and has the best performance that Casey Affleck ever did.

Grimsby (aka The Brothers Grimsby) movie review: grim indeed

A soul-crushing experience: lazy, cheap, lurid, and stupid. Painfully unfunny and pointless. Sacha Baron Cohen now panders to those he once rightly mocked. I’m “biast” (pro): once loved Sacha Baron Cohen

I’m “biast” (con): …but he has tried my patience lately

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

Ten years ago, in Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, Sacha Baron Cohen held up clueless white-male privilege, racist cruelty, and idiotic sexism (among other petty smallmindednesses) as worthy of ridicule. Seven years ago, in Bruno, he held up straight men’s gay panic (as well as other kneejerk ignorances and superficialities) as deserving of derision. The daring and fearless cultural critic that Baron Cohen was once would be appalled by the crass viciousness of Grimsby. He has made himself the target of his former self with a witless action

What Borat Actually Did During The Never-Seen Nsfw Porno Shoot Scene

Sacha Baron Cohen’s movie Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, which is the greatest movie title ever for a writer trying to make a word count, is full of the actor doing absolutely insane things in the guise of a completely lost foreigner. But there was one scene that ultimately was decided to be even too crazy for the film’s final cut. "Borat" joined in an actual pornographic film shoot. Sacha Baron Cohen was a guest on Conan when he told the story of the scene that he really wanted to include in Borat but eventually decided to cut. Borat needed money and so he joined the cast of an adult film. In the scene, Borat played the room service guy who "accidently" walks in on a couple who are having sex. He’s supposed ...

25 great movie comedies that run for 90 minutes or less

Need a good laugh, but only got an hour and a half? Might we recommend this little lot...

I’m of the firm belief that films work most effectively when their runtime is 90 minutes or less. It forces an economy of story and dialogue which propels the film into its best self. No bloated middle, extended ending, or wasted stories here. This goes double for comedies. They should never outstay their welcome. But they seem to be getting longer, as we recently pointed out here.

So to refresh your movie comedy palette, here are 25 films that are 90 minutes or under. I’ve tried to avoid the more obvious ones, and shine a light on those comedies which might have gone a bit unappreciated over the years, but are well worth a hour and a half of your time. This lean runtime isn’t a guarantee of greatness of course,

'Brothers Grimsby' Red Band Trailer #2 Is Definitely Nsfw

  • MovieWeb
'Brothers Grimsby' Red Band Trailer #2 Is Definitely Nsfw
With the March 11 release date getting closer and closer for Sony Pictures' comedy The Brothers Grimsby, the studio has released the second red band trailer for this upcoming comedy starring Sacha Baron Cohen. This new footage features some bizarre situations and some R-rated language, which shouldn't be watched by viewers under the age of 18. In related news, Sacha Baron Cohen also stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night, where he debuted possibly one of the strangest clips in late-night TV history.

Before the clip aired Jimmy Kimmel revealed that they couldn't show the whole clip on the air, since it is "extremely graphic," so what they did was show a portion of this scene that was safe for TV, and then cut away to show TV viewers the audiences reaction to the scene. Even Jimmy Kimmel and Guillermo Rodriguez went into the audience to watch this apparently outrageous scene unfold.

'Brothers Grimsby' Trailer Has Sacha Baron Cohen on a Secret Mission
Way back in October, we got our first taste of The Brothers Grimsby, the latest comedy from Sacha Baron Cohen. And it surprised fans and casual viewers alike, as this Red Band trailer looked like a bonafide action movie. In fact, the sneak preview contained a fun bit that was better than anything seen in terms of action this fall. Now, we get the official green band trailer. It slowly trickles in the comedy. And it's funny!

The 101 Funniest Screenplays of All-Time, According to the WGA

Perhaps the most subjective genre in cinema, the same comedy can cause one viewer to have tears of laughter and another to not crack a smile. So, while knowing there can be no definitive list of the finest in the genre, the Writers Guild of America attempted to narrow down the 101 funniest screenplays. Noting the distinction from the best in the genre, these 101 films should simply produce the most laughs.

Topping the list is Woody Allen‘s Best Picture-winning Annie Hall, a choice difficult to argue with. Rounding out the top five were Some Like it Hot, Groundhog Day, Airplane! and Tootsie, while films from the Coens, Stanley Kubrick, Wes Anderson, and Edgar Wright were also mentioned. There are also some genuine head-scratching inclusions, including The Hangover at 30, and, as much as I enjoy the film, Bridesmaids nearly making the top 15, but overall, if one is looking to brighten their mood,

'Brothers Grimsby' Red Band Trailer Starring Sacha Baron Cohen

'Brothers Grimsby' Red Band Trailer Starring Sacha Baron Cohen
Earlier this year, Sony Pictures pushed its spy comedy Grimsby out of its July 31, 2015 release date, moving it to March 4, 2016. This move was surely for the best, since Paramount ended up moving its spy thriller Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation into that same date, which took in $682 million worldwide. Today, Sony Pictures (via IGN) has changed the title to The Brothers Grimsby, while releasing the first red band trailer and photo.

Nobby (Sacha Baron Cohen), a sweet but dimwitted English football hooligan, reunites with his long-lost brother Sebastian (Mark Strong), a deadly MI6 agent, to prevent a massive global terror attack and prove that behind every great spy is an embarrassing sibling. Nobby has everything a man from Grimsby could want, including 11 children and the most gorgeous girlfriend in the northeast of England (Rebel Wilson). There's only one thing missing: his little brother, Sebastian, who Nobby has spent 28 years searching for

Sacha Baron Cohen Sets Up Production Company Spelthorne Community Television

Cannes — Sacha Baron Cohen and Andrew Newman, the former chief executive of Objective Productions, have set up U.K.-based production company Spelthorne Community Television, in which Channel 4 has taken a minority stake.

Spelthorne Community Television, which is named after the district from which Baron Cohen’s character Ali G came from, will specialize in creating scripted TV comedy and comedy entertainment content with a “strong focus on innovation and new ideas.” Through this company the duo will support new and emerging comedy writers and performers with “bold ambition.”

Baron Cohen’s relationship with Newman and Channel 4 reaches back to the 1990s. Baron Cohen made his debut in 1998 on Channel 4’s “The 11 O’clock Show,” where he worked with Newman, who was the show’s producer. Baron Cohen’s TV series “Da Ali G Show” also aired on Channel 4. It won two BAFTA TV awards and

Nicolas Cage joins Borat director's Osama Bin Laden comedy

Nicolas Cage joins Borat director's Osama Bin Laden comedy
Nicolas Cage has been cast in Osama Bin Laden hunt comedy Army of One.

Borat director Larry Charles is adapting a GQ article about a Us citizen who decided to launch his own hunt for the terrorist, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Cage will play construction worked Gary Faulkner, who made several attempts to sneak into Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The semi-scripted film is expected to diverge from the original narrative.

Charles also directed Sacha Baron Cohen in Brüno and The Dictator.

Cage was most recently seen in Dying of the Light.

Nicolas Cage will hunt down Osama bin Laden in Larry Charles’s ‘Army of One’

  • SoundOnSight
Seth Rogen and James Franco forgot one thing when making The Interview: you won’t offend anyone if you go after a tyrant who’s already dead.

Okay, maybe that’s not entirely true, but the next team of people likely to stir international controversy over a silly comedy are Borat director Larry Charles and none other than Nicolas Cage in their new satire Army of One.

The Hollywood Reporter first had details on the new project Wednesday, in which Cage plays an ordinary guy from the States who takes it upon himself to hunt down and kill Osama bin Laden. The film is loosely based on a GQ article about Gary Faulkner, a 50-year-old man from Colorado who, according to the piece, “had been found high in the mountains of Pakistan near the Afghan border carrying a sword, a dagger, a pistol, and night-vision equipment” on a one-man quest to kill bin Laden.

Nicolas Cage to hunt Osama bin Laden in Army of One

Nicolas Cage has signed on to star in Army of One, an upcoming satire from director Larry Charles (Borat, The Dictator), which is based upon the true story of a regular Joe who embarked on a hunt for the notorious Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

THR reports that the project is loosely based upon a GQ article about Gary Faulkner, “a Colorado construction worker who took it upon himself to find Bin Laden, including trying to sneak into Pakistan and Afghanistan numerous times.”

Army of One is set to shoot in March, with The Weinstein Company hoping to have the film ready for release later in the year.

Nicolas Cage to Hunt Osama Bin Laden in Army of One Comedy, Directed by Borat Helmer

The Weinstein Company announced that Nicolas Cage will star as an average guy who attempts to hunt down Osama Bin Laden in the upcoming "Army of One" comedy, to be directed by Larry Charles (Borat). The story is based on a GQ magazine article about a construction worker/ex-con Gary Faulkner, who attempted to sneak into Pakistan and Afghanistan multiple times armed with a sword in order to find Bin Laden. This obviously took place before Bin Laden was killed by Seal Team 6. The plan is to begin shooting in March and use the same techniques utilized in Charles' other films, like "Bruno" and "The Dictator." It will then hit theaters at the end of 2015.
