23 January 2015 6:47 AM, PST | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

Nicolas Cage has been cast in Osama Bin Laden hunt comedy Army of One.

Borat director Larry Charles is adapting a GQ article about a Us citizen who decided to launch his own hunt for the terrorist, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Cage will play construction worked Gary Faulkner, who made several attempts to sneak into Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The semi-scripted film is expected to diverge from the original narrative.

Charles also directed Sacha Baron Cohen in Brüno and The Dictator.

Cage was most recently seen in Dying of the Light. »

Nicolas Cage will hunt down Osama bin Laden in Larry Charles’s ‘Army of One’

Seth Rogen and James Franco forgot one thing when making The Interview: you won’t offend anyone if you go after a tyrant who’s already dead.

Okay, maybe that’s not entirely true, but the next team of people likely to stir international controversy over a silly comedy are Borat director Larry Charles and none other than Nicolas Cage in their new satire Army of One.

The Hollywood Reporter first had details on the new project Wednesday, in which Cage plays an ordinary guy from the States who takes it upon himself to hunt down and kill Osama bin Laden. The film is loosely based on a GQ article about Gary Faulkner, a 50-year-old man from Colorado who, according to the piece, “had been found high in the mountains of Pakistan near the Afghan border carrying a sword, a dagger, a pistol, and night-vision equipment” on a one-man quest to kill bin Laden. »

The Weinstein Company announced that Nicolas Cage will star as an average guy who attempts to hunt down Osama Bin Laden in the upcoming "Army of One" comedy, to be directed by Larry Charles (Borat). The story is based on a GQ magazine article about a construction worker/ex-con Gary Faulkner, who attempted to sneak into Pakistan and Afghanistan multiple times armed with a sword in order to find Bin Laden. This obviously took place before Bin Laden was killed by Seal Team 6. The plan is to begin shooting in March and use the same techniques utilized in Charles' other films, like "Bruno" and "The Dictator." It will then hit theaters at the end of 2015. »

22 January 2015 12:13 AM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Looks like Nicolas Cage is going back to some of his comedy roots for a new movie called Army Of One for Borat director Larry Charles. The planned film will see Cage play a regular ‘Joe’ who decides to get off his backside to hunt Osama Bin Laden.

The Hollywood Reporter has more:

Army of One is loosely based on Chris Heath’s GQ magazine article recounting the real-life misadventures of Gary Faulkner, a Colorado construction worker who took it upon himself to find Bin Laden, including trying to sneak into Pakistan and Afghanistan numerous times.

The Weinstein brothers Harvey and Bob are behind the film with their TWC/ Dimension label, and shooting is set to get underway pretty quickly with Cage and co. going before the cameras in March for a late 2015 release.

Nicolas Cage to Hunt Osama bin Laden for 'Borat' Director in New Comedy

21 January 2015 3:30 PM, PST | Movies.com | See recent Movies.com news »

Nicolas Cage gets a bit of a bum reputation these days as a bad actor. That's just simply not true. He has far too many great movies with truly unique performances for that to be the case. But, to be fair, he's popped up in quite a few duds in the recent years, many of which went straight to home video. So while his reputation may not be entirely accurate, it's at least understandable. Hopefully Army of One changes that. Directed by Larry Charles (Borat), this new satire is based loosely on the real life of Gary Faulkner, a construction worker from Colorado who quit his day job to travel to the other side of the world and hunt down Osama bin Laden. Obviously he didn't succeed, but he certainly got up to many shenanigans in the process. For example, his most...

Imagine if some random guy from Colorado just decided to travel to Pakistan and hunt Osama bin Laden himself? Now imagine if they made a movie about that guy and he was played by the always-entertaining (and forever-fascinating) Nicolas Cage. That's the setup for Army of One, which will star Cage in the leading role. Directed by Larry Charles (Borat), this satire is based loosely on the real life of Gary Faulkner, a construction worker from Colorado who quit his day job to travel to the...

Nicolas Cage Is An "Army of One"

21 January 2015 12:38 PM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

"Borat" helmer Larry Charles is set to direct and Nicolas Cage is slated to star in the satirical comedy "Army of One" for TWC-Dimension, Endgame Entertainment and Conde Nast Entertainment.

The story is loosely based on a GQ magazine article about a Colorado construction worker/ex-con who attempted to sneak into Pakistan and Afghanistan multiple times. His goal? To find and kill Osama Bin Laden. He never succeeded though as the al-Qaeda leader was ultimately assassinated at the hands of U.S. Navy Seal Team 6 in May 2011.

Rajiv Joseph and Scott Rothman (Draft Day) penned the script, but Charles is expected to use the same semi-improvised techniques he used in "Bruno" and "The Dictator" which will allow Cage to deliver an unpredictable and unstable character performance.

Shooting is slated to begin at the end of March for a late 2015 release through TWC-Dimension.

Nic Cage Will Finally Kill Osama bin Laden

21 January 2015 11:25 AM, PST | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

It's not that strange to imagine Nic Cage taking out Osama bin Laden. Or at least wanting to. That's why he's been cast to play Gary Faulkner, reports Deadline, the subject of a fascinating GQ profile who, as a "50-year-old ex-con ... traveled to the most volatile region of Pakistan to capture Osama bin Laden." The film's called Army of One and will be directed by Larry Charles — the same guy who did Borat and so many episodes of Seinfeld — which means we're likely getting something funny. Or at least something that's funny on purpose.  »

Nicolas Cage Set To Hunt Down Osama Bin Laden In Satire Army Of One

21 January 2015 10:55 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Borat director Larry Charles has tapped Nicolas Cage to lead his latest satire, Army of One, which will see the actor play an average Joe who attempts to hunt down Osama Bin Laden on his lonesome.

Loosely inspired on real events, Charles’ latest draws from the story of one Gary Faulkner, a blue-collar construction worker who took it upon himself to assassinate who many considered to be one of the most dangerous men in the world at the time. Such a journey saw Faulkner attempt to sneak into Afghanistan and Pakistan on multiple occasions, armed with only a sword to stop the al-Qaeda leader in his tracks before his ultimate demise at the hand of the Us army in May of 2011.

On paper, it’s a bonkers premise that could just work thanks to the touch of Charles. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Army of One will retain the semi-improvised »

Nicolas Cage to Hunt for Osama Bin Laden in Satirical But True Story Army of One

21 January 2015 10:36 AM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

The hunt for Osama bin Laden was so significant that we’ve already had a few movies about missions to find and/or kill the al-Qaeda leader. Most famously, of course, is Zero Dark Thirty, which dramatizes the operation that resulted in bin Laden’s death. Before that was the comedic documentary Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden?, in which director Morgan Spurlock jokingly travels through Africa and the Middle East in search of the wanted terrorist. Spurlock wasn’t the only “regular guy” on the hunt, though, as we’ll see soon enough in the comedy Army of One. Described as a satire, the movie will also be based on a true story of the “Rocky Mountain Rambo,” Gary Faulkner, a Denver-based construction worker who in 2010 went to Pakistan armed with a pistol, a knife and a samurai sword to take out bin Laden all by himself.
