In the lead up to the Jonathan Creek Easter Special The Clue of The Savant’s Thumb, I was privileged to have the chance to sit down and chat to the stars of the episode, Alan Davies, Sheridan Smith and Rik Mayall, along with the creator of Jonathan Creek; David Renwick. Despite all involved being very careful not to give any integral plot points or twists away; for a long-standing Jonathan Creek fan like me, it was a real treat to be able to hear about the close knit bond between cast and crew, along with the crucial thought process that goes behind creating some of the most elaborate and baffling tricks and mysteries on television.

Jonathan Creek is back on the Beeb, and not just for Easter special, The Clue of the Savant's Thumb starring Alan Davies, Sheridan Smith, Rik Mayall, Nigel Planer and Joanna Lumley, but also for three brand new episodes due to film this autumn. We caught up with lead Alan Davies in a round table interview to talk magicians, detectives, Sherlock Holmes, "Creek Geeks", Qi, and more...
Congratulations on the episode, I know you can’t give too much away...
I know it is hard this, you want to big it up but then you can’t say anything that will ruin it, yes it is all so delicate, the clues and the mysteries and everything; you can’t really talk about it.

One minute there's a Christmas present. The next minute it's taken away from you. Presumably, the sizeable army of Jonathan Creek fans found this when rumours of a 2012 Christmas special recently surfaced on the web. Alas, it turned out to be a false hope, since the main man himself Alan Davies said that the news was no more than a rumour and that nothing had been set up to compete alongside Time Lord festivities, Brucie's frosty-looking wig and Scrooge-esque happenings in Albert Square.
So what is it about Jonathan Creek that still brings the viewers back for more? The last Christmas special, The Grinning Man (broadcast in 2009) gained nearly 10 million viewers, a strong showing for the festive competition, suggesting that there was still a healthy demand for the unassuming fellah in the duffle coat. Basically, for the most part, it's a two-pronged mystery. Not only can it feature whodunnit elements,...

Hello. My name is John Bensalhia and I'm a freelance journalist. There, that should leave you hurling abuse and running for the hills.
Let's face it, journalists don't really have a very good press – they're a rung or two above bankers, accountants, Inland Revenue staff and parking ticket inspectors, but there's still a stench of doubt whenever you mention the word journalist, which I think is massively unfair - but then I would say that. But then, given some of the more sensationalist members of the media, maybe those sneers aren't as misplaced as you may think.
The new reboot of Doctor Who's proving to be particularly good at targeting modern day trends, whether they're the superficial lifestyles of the likes of Posh And Becks (The End Of The World ), political manifestos (Aliens Of London/World War Three) or now media manipulation. This seems to be a particular target...

The last time I was at the Odeon in Leicester Square, it was with my dad to see Elizabeth: The Golden Age. He won’t thank me for telling you this, but at the time he had drunk somewhat more than a bottle of plonk and was, shall we say, ‘getting into’ the movie. By the time the Spanish Armada had set sail, Mr Kirby was behaving like a spectator at a particularly rowdy football match, whooping and cheering as Spanish galleons sank and rather passionately imploring Clive Owen to kick some paella-eating arse.
Tonight’s premiere of Tamara Drewe was a rather more sedate affair (in fact, other than location, that tale has nothing to do with the premiere; it’s just an anecdote I like to tell whenever the slightest opportunity arises). Cast, crew and various ‘slebs’ turned up, despite iffy weather and tube strikes, to walk themselves down the red carpet,...

Showtime's forthcoming comedy series "Episodes," about the difficulty of getting a TV series made, has run into a couple of difficulties of its own.
The show has recast one of its lead roles and has also lost the services of Thomas Haden Church, who was slated to play a recurring part as a network executive. Church had to drop out because of scheduling conflicts with a film project he's working on, Variety reports.
Meanwhile, Claire Forlani -- who was set to play half of a married British writer-producer team -- has been replaced on the show with British actress Tamsin Greig ("Shaun of the Dead," "Love Soup").
"Episodes" is about the travails of the husband-and-wife writing team (Stephen Mangan plays the husband) when they try to adapt their hit British show for an American network, which wants Matt LeBlanc (playing himself, sort of) to star.

Welcome to your Thursday morning television briefing. Cast changes are afoot at Showtime's upcoming Matt LeBlanc-led comedy Episodes, with Thomas Haden Church pulling out of the project due to a scheduling conflict with a film and Claire Forlani being recast after the recent table read earlier this week. But with Forlani out, Showtime has had the luck of landing British actress Tamsin Greig (Black Books, Green Wing, Love Soup) to replace her. [Editor: I think Greig is a much better fit and is a comedy genius. Showtime is beyond lucky to have nabbed her. Grieg's Black Books character, Fran Katzenjammer, remains a perennial favorite.] Greig will step into Forlani's role, as the female half of a husband-and-wife writing team whose British series is adapted for American television... and ruined in the process. Showtime has ordered seven episodes of the series, which is created by David Crane and Jeffrey Klarik, who executive produce alongside Jimmy Mulville. (Variety) Steve Carell has announced his intention to leave The Office after one more season. Speaking to BBC Radio 2's Steve Wright, Carell said that his...

Michael Landes is extending his relationship with Fox Broadcasting Co. and 20th Century Fox Television.
Landes, who co-starred on David E. Kelley's dramedy The Wedding Bells for Fox and 20th TV, has signed a talent deal with the network and the studio.
Under the pact, 20th TV and Fox will develop a project for him targeted for the 2008-09 season.
"Michael is a great-looking leading man who is equally adept at comedy and drama," Fox executive vp casting Marcia Shulman said. "It was a no-brainer."
Landes, whose series credits include ABC's Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, UPN's Special Unit 2 and BBC's Love Soup, played wedding photographer David Conlon on Bells this past spring.
"He's just a charming, incredibly talented guy who I know is going to be a huge television star," 20th TV senior vp casting Sharon Klein said. "It's just a matter of time and finding him the right project."
Landes recently completed the Yari Film Group feature Addicted, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. He will next be seen in the Disney comedy College Road Trip.
Landes, whose theater credits include the male lead in the London West End production of When Harry Met Sally, is repped by Endeavor and attorneys Jason Sloane and Harris Hartman.
