'Lincoln' Leads 2013 BAFTA Nominations (But No Nod For Spielberg)

8 January 2013 11:00 PM, PST | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

The 2013 British Academy Film Award nominations have been announced, with Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" leading the pack with 10 (though Spielberg himself was not nominated for best director). "Les Misérables" and "Life of Pi" were each nominated in nine categories, while "Skyfall" had eight nominations and "Argo" seven. "Zero Dark Thirty" joined all the aforementioned in the best film category -- save "Skyfall," which most expected would most definitely make the cut. Other snubs included Tom Hooper missing out on a best director nomination (Michael Haneke and Quentin Tarantino replaced him and Spielberg), Denzel Washington and John Hawkes not getting best actor nods (but Ben Affleck somehow did), and Naomi Watts failing to making the best actress cut.  And in the biggest surprise, the BAFTAs also shut out the homegrown "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" cast, including Judi Dench »

'Lincoln' Leads BAFTA Award Nominations With 10

8 January 2013 5:23 PM, PST | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

London -- Lincoln leads the pack of nominations for this year's British Academy Film Awards, securing 10 nominations on Wednesday. The honors are presented by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) and sponsored by cell phone giant Ee. To win the best film award, Steven Spielberg's historical epic will have to garner more BAFTA member votes than Ben Affleck's Argo, Tom Hooper's Les Miserables, Ang Lee's Life of Pi and Kathryn Bigelow's Zero Dark Thirty. This year, the best film and best director categories don't match up, with Hooper and Spielberg on a best director slot. Photos: THR's

Producers Guild Announces 2013 Nominees; 'Skyfall,' 'Beasts' and 'Moonrise' Make Cut

2 January 2013 3:06 PM, PST | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

The Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced both the motion picture and long-form television nominations for the 24th Annual Producers Guild Awards this afternoon. The expected likes of "Argo," "Zero Dark Thirty," "Lincoln" and "Les Miserables" all made the list, which was generally predictable overall. Some thought "The Avengers," "The Master" and/or "The Dark Knight Rises" might have shots, but they lost out to a trio of films fighting for the last few best picture Oscar slots (however there might end up being): "Beasts of the Southern Wild," "Moonrise Kingdom" and "Skyfall." Last year's PGA nominees saw three films miss the Oscar cut: "Bridesmaids," "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" and "The Ides of March." "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" and "The Tree of Life" were nominated in their place. All 2013 »

'Skyfall' ranks on Producers Guild Awards list of top 10 nominees

2 January 2013 2:48 PM, PST | EW - Inside Movies | See recent - Inside Movies news »

The Producers Guild of America has announced its nominations for best productions of the year, in what is often looked to as an indicator for how the Academy Awards may go.

The guild selected 10 films — most of them common guesses for the group that could make up the Oscar list of the best films of 2012: Argo, Lincoln, Les Misérables, among others.

The one surprise: Skyfall. No 007 film has ever cracked the Best Picture list, but if this nomination is any indication, that could change when the Oscar nods are revealed Jan. 10.
