Storyline

The Hauser family are Innkeeper in the summer. The Inn is guarded by two men in the winter: Gaspard and Ulrich. Due to isolation and lack of communication with the outside world, they get depressed. It is Ulrich's first winter in the mountain and he thinks of Louise Hauser, whom he would like to marry in spite of her father's refusal. At Christmas, Gaspard goes hunting and finds a mountain goat. While trying to catch it, he trips, falls in a cliff and breaks his leg. His calls remain unanswered and he is slowly covered in snow. Meanwhile, at the Inn, Ulrich is slowly loosing his mind.
