A True Masterpiece
2 October 2012
I have watched this hundreds of times. I wish PBS still broadcast it in
HD, but I'll make do with the DVD. It is about more than just Alaska.
It is about life itself and our relationships to each other, to our
parents, to the whole of the earth and life itself.
"In a place where the mountains themselves are evanescent, we too are
changed. I come to Wrangle Saint Elias not only to capture a memory of
my childhood, but to perceive the relationships made visible by this
great land... Like that between the salmon and the bear; the glacier
and the river; the mountains and the sea; the earth and space; father
and son... to understand not only the parts of life, but the sum."
