Storyline

Shinobu is a trainee female ninja who lives at a ninja training school with several dozen anonymous male ninja and her lecherous master/companion, Onsokumaru, a shape-shifting ball-like creature of indeterminate species. Ordinary high-schooler Kaede befriends Shinobu when she catches her sneaking into her bedroom to steal a pair of her underpants (part of her ninja exam set by Onsokumaru). Shinobu is distressed at failing even this simple task, but Kaede, knowing the pressure of exams, takes pity on Shinobu and gives her a pair of her panties. Thus begins a friendship that sees Kaede drawn into Shinobu's world of ninja scholastics, a world where actual ninja training takes a back seat to sleeping in, watching TV, eating snacks and goofing off! Ninja Nonsense: The Legend of Shinobu
22 January 2013 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

This twelve episode anime follows school girl Kaede and her friend, ninja trainee, Shinobu as they get in a variety of amusing situations. The pair meet after Shinobu's perverted headmaster Onsokumaru gives her the task of breaking into a girl's house and stealing her undies! Kaede catches her in the act but rather than calling the police she actually feels sorry for Shinobu. The next day they go to the Ninja Academy where they meet the other ninja trainees. Over the course of the series they get into a variety of amusing situations; many involving Onsokumaru's unsuccessful attempts to see the girls naked.

This is hardly a must see series but it is still pretty funny for the most part. The situations are nearly always very silly but that doesn't really matter nor does the fact that the animation isn't as detailed as most series. The protagonists are fun although I wasn't sure what to make of Onsokumaru; he just looks like a yellow ball with a face on it for most of the time and nobody seems to find that strange. There is a fair amount of fan service although for the most part it is quite innocent. I prefer to watch anime subtitled but saw the dubbed version of this and thought the English voice cast did a decent job. Overall I'd say this is a good enough series that you might want to check out if you want something fairly wacky to laugh at.
