Although Gracie wants to join her brothers and father in the nightly practices, she is discouraged by everyone except her elder brother, Johnny. Her father does not believe that girls should play soccer and tells her that she is neither tough enough nor talented enough to play with the boys team. Undeterred, Gracie finds reserves of strength she never knew existed, and persists in changing everyone's beliefs in what she is capable of, including her own. She faces an uphill battle when she fights to give women the opportunity to play competitive soccer. But as the beautiful and strong person that she has always been but she also brings her family together in the face of their own tragedy. Written by Anthony Pereyra {hypersonic91@yahoo.com}

Trivia

Is inspired by events in the life of Elisabeth Shue while growing up (in the same town where the movie was filmed), who played soccer with the boys for as long as she could before turning her focus to gymnastics. See more »

Goofs

The film is set in the late 1970's, yet the referees shown are wearing the gold jerseys that are standard today. Then, referees typically wore solid black jerseys with white cuffs and collars. Socks most frequently matched with a solid white top, rather than the three-striped sock. Referee jerseys changed in the 1990s to a fuchsia and black check pattern, and since around 2000 have changed to gold with black pin-striping as seen in the film. See more »

Crazy Credits

A dedication to Elisabeth Shue's deceased brother, William, appears at the beginning of the film. Quotations from Elisabeth and William appear before and after the closing credits. See more »

Great entertainment for the family
17 May 2008 | by (Brazil) – See all my reviews

I try to pick out movies that will entertain everyone in our family. Enough of a story to keep me from falling asleep, enough emotional involvement for my wife and an easy to follow plot for my children, with nothing too controversial or adult themed. This film was an absolute winner. It had us all cheering and crying and smiling at the various points in the film. The acting and filming were great and the story was beautifully told. Yes there are clichés and stereotypes, but that just makes it easy to follow for the children. Also, although the film has a football/soccer theme it doesn't require any special interest in this sport to enjoy (I'm no fan). Overall an excellent family movie and a real surprise. I'll be recommending this to my friends.
