This series reminds me of a mix between Evangelion, RahXephon, and Stellvia. We have this secret paradise-like island where the peace is shattered by the invasion of an alien drone called a Festum. Only a handful of the children on the island are capable of piloting Fafner, a special giant robot with the ability to defeat the Festum. For now, the only pilot is the leading candidate Kazuki who is helped by another boy -Soushi- who handles a supplementary system.
The series has a great musical score sung by Angela (who also sings the songs for 'Stellvia') and seamless animation that does a good job of blending the CGI for the mech fights with the standard animation of the characters and environment.
Definitely worth a try!
