"I want to explore your mind, I want to know how it began." And we are then flooded with wave after wave of some of the most erotic lesbian sex ever filmed. A girl, played by Sandra Shine, shows us her memories of all of her first lesbian encounters. Each one is beautifully filmed, and with a nice soundtrack. All of the girls are young, and wear cute outfits. The girls are physically flawless, and the sex is real.
Indeed, my standards for what I consider visually arousing seem to have gone up a bit since I began watching Viv Thomas' films. I used to judge porn solely on how integrated the sex was with the story. Now, however, many pornographers have gotten away from the clichés of the 80s and early 90s. We can now enjoy watching erotica without the overdramatised acting and enormous fake breasts,,, well, maybe there's still a lot of that around.
Many porn films tend to have no real effort put into the soundtrack. This displays a lack of knowledge of how important sound is to sex films. It's better to have no soundtrack than to have a really bad one. Butterfly, however, has a very nice soundtrack consisting primarily of ambient sounds which compliment the sounds of sex rather than covering it up.
The whole thing has a very dreamy mood to it. Very slow moving and drifting from scene to scene, similar in it's aura to an old French Romance film. The camera-work and lighting is great, with good angles and closeups when necessary. This is the kind of movie that makes you actually want to remember the names of the people who were involved in making it, so that you can look for more of their work. If you can't find this in a store, then go to Viv Thomas' website.
