The series was originally meant to act as a sequel to Transformers: Energon
(2004), but during production, was rewritten to be a completely unrelated story. Later on, the American edit of the series reinstalled its sequel status, although this had caused several continuity errors. After many years, Takara (the owner of the Transformers brand in Japan) followed suit and now they also consider the series to be a sequel to Super Link, disregarding the continuity issues. See more
Although the Mini-Cons of the planet Gigalonia (Gigantion in the English dub) are normal, about human-sized robots, they suddenly become gigantic when they combine with their giant Transformer partners. This is because their animation models have been based directly on their toys, however when separated, their partners are shown to be gigantic, whereas the Mini-Cons themselves are of the same size as any other Mini-Con.
