I've seen this special only once (as if they'd repeat it), so my memories of it are a bit hazy, but I do recall sitting with my sister in stunned silence at the tacky costumes, the cheesy guest stars, the swirling fog effects, and most of all the unidiomatic interpretations of the pop songs of the day. Okay, the stunned silence alternated with jaw-aching, side-splitting laughter. This was before the "Three Tenors" era of classical/popular crossover, and to see a well-known, respected opera singer in this show was a shock, to say the least, not to mention an utter embarrassment. In short, the whole thing stinks out loud. Gee, I wish they'd put it out on DVD!
