This would be Eddie Guerrero's final WrestleMania appearance before his untimely passing on November 13, 2005. He had previously appeared at WrestleMania 2000, WrestleMania X-Seven, WrestleMania XIX, and WrestleMania XX before he would be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2006.

The television advertisements for WrestleMania 21 were parodies of famous scenes from famous films because this WrestleMania took place in Los Angeles. The scenes were performed by the WWE Superstars. The films were: A Few Good Men (1992) (played by John Cena, John "Bradshaw" Layfield (John Layfield) and Jonathan Coachman). The money in the bank ladder match at wrestlemania 21 was exclusive to the raw brand where the winner had a shot at that brands champion, whereas all the other money in the bank ladder matches at wrestlemania were interpromotional and for a shot at the championship of their choosing.
