Beware of Puerto Rican Vampires!
jjturley1 October 2007
In this modern vampire tale, it seems that vampires exist all over the city, but we poor mortals are unaware. We are doomed, since we do not believe they exist! Our story starts with a young man named Jonathan (played by Jorge Dieppa), who is depressed after his relationship with Vanessa (played by Brenda Robles) ended badly. Jonathan and his best friend Miguel (played very well by Elí Cay) go out for the evening to see their favorite band play in a local nightclub. Meeting up with other friends, they sit down to get comfortable and drunk. But then Jonathan notices that Brenda is at the club with a new boyfriend named "Bimbo" (played by Daddy Yankee). The groups exchange some harsh words, and it looks like a fistfight might start! Little does anyone know that yet another group of people are at this same club. Attractive and decked out in black, they too are out to enjoy the night... After some more drinking, Jonathan mingles and connects with one of them; a sultry woman named Gloria (played very well by Wanda Rovira). Jonathan and Gloria then make an exit for a night on the town. Poor Jonathan's troubles are just about to start!! This low-budget movie appears to have been shot in video, judging from the look of it. With that said, the overall quality is high. A lot of effort was put into this film, and the acting is really quite good. I can think of many other films made with a lot more money that fared much worse. On a separate note, the subtitles were very much appreciated. I have studied Spanish and would like to think I can watch a movie in that language. The dialect in Puerto Rico, however, is something else! It was interesting to listen to, but I could understand very little.
