Has anyone else seen this amazing film?
8 April 2005 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

I recently watched "Out of Shadow" and thought it was such a brilliant and important documentary. We follow the filmmaker Susan Smiley's mother Millie through her battle with schizophrenia that went completely undiagnosed well into her 20s. The film also shows you the pains of having to deal with the public health system. The viewer is brought into the filmmakers life and the hell she had to endure being raised by a mother with paranoid schizophrenia. I knew almost nothing about this mental illness before seeing the film and could not believe the world that these people live in. I would love to hear other peoples thoughts on the documentary that I was so deeply moved by.
