This is just a hilarious, completely original movie. This is what indie movies are all about--a structure that takes risks, supporting a subject that is brutally, hilariously honest. This is a very human, funny, cool movie. Required viewing for single people, especially single people who feel like they're too old to still be single. Excellent performances all around, with Chip Godwin as a standout. I wouldn't be surprised if he is on the cusp of stardom. This is one of those movies that stays with you. You watch it--think it's really good-- then you find yourself thinking about it, quoting it, laughing about it, for weeks afterward. You don't notice how much depth the movie has upon a first viewing, but as your mind comes back to it again and again in weeks to come, you gotta give it credit--the movie is funny, but it's also deep, and it's got something important to say.
I just recently saw this movie at the Slamdance film festival in Park City, UT this past weekend and it was absolutely hilarious. The lead actor, Chip, had me bent over in my lap from laughing so hard. The experiences that he goes through in the movie are ones that both men and women can relate to. The script and camera techniques are very unique and contribute to the whole experience. I had never heard of John Dowdle before, but he did a great job with this one and obviously has some serious talent. Hopefully this film will be distributed so that everyone will have the opportunity to see this one. Definitely worth while.
This film kicked ass at Slamdance 2005. On the streets of Park City you heard "go see THE DRY SPELL" instead of some already sold out studio Sundance film. What company has the balls to put out the next cult classic which is better than NAPOLEAN DYNAMITE? Lions Gate? Fine Line? Fox Searchlight? MTV? Come on boys....step up to the plate and let the world see this unorthodox jewel! It's not like it would take a whole hell of a lot of acquisition money to get this film into theaters. I know the ego driven, keeping up with the Joneses, studios always want to out do each other. Well, this is your opportunity to make everyone else look like they missed the boat! Put it out! America loves the quirky anti-hero.....'JEEZE'!
