Second Meera Syal adaptation
10 May 2005 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

The second novel by Meera Syal to be adapted for the screen I was eager to see if it would live up to the quality of Anita and Me. Judging by the first instalment it is sure to surpass it. The script is tight and the performances are faultless. This first episode made for uncomfortable viewing in some parts, Meera Syal in the bathroom is rather disturbing. Laila Rouass previously seen in Footballers Wives and Hollyoaks was a revelation. I really wasn't sure she would be able to cut it on screen with the likes of Syal but she more than held her own. In fact I would say hers was the finest performance. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.
