When going to see all the 8 Films, this movie was one of them that I
was anticipating the most along with Unrest and Penny Dreadful. All
three did not disappoint at all, but IMO this one stood out the most.
OK, Penny Dreadful and Unrest were more scarier, but this one was the
roller coaster ride of all of them! If you weren't being scared, you
were having a good laugh, or being amazed. I just love movies that can
mix all of those elements together! And what a fresh original plot! How
could Hollywood let these slide and release crap like When A Stranger
Calls, The Fog and Prom Night? (Original plot vs remakes, get my
drift?) The looks of the ghost are sweet looking too. Laugh at them all
you want, but what if you were to wake up to those faces looking right
at you? Not so funny now is it? And is it just me or with the humor
(intentional mind you) did the film give a nice Ghostbusters and
Poltergeist feel to it? I think it did and nice to see a movie similar
to those classics!
I swear, why couldn't After Dark had a good movie like this in the previous lineup? *sigh*
Well the movie begins as a promising, serious scary experience, but as the plot unfolds it unravels into sheer comedy and makes fun of itself, which was kind of amusing to me, but may be not so for other people, specially if one is looking for a scared-the-s**t-out-of-me movie and this is why I rated it 5/10. The impression one gets by watching this movie is that either the director did not know where he was heading while the scenes were being shot or that the editors really tried hard to assemble their own version of the story, considering the discrepancy of how the movie begins and the way it ends, since it goes from aural depiction of the ominous into Ghostbusters-like cgi effects.
I mean have you read the title of the movie? Than take that quite
literally and ask yourself, do you think that you will like a movie,
where people act in a way they shouldn't? At least will you give the
characters some slack and don't prejudge them? And can you stop
thinking for the running time of this movie? If you can answer these
questions in favor of the movie, than you shall watch it, if not, you
better stay away from it ...
It's not that it is bad ... it's just the old fashion way of people going places (and doing stupid things on them), that they shouldn't ... And although I was talking mostly about the beginning (again see the title for the clue), there's another very stupid act happening at the end of the movie, that will blow your (brain)fuses if you accidentally happened to have your brain switched on ... Other than that quite enjoyable ... ;o)
I was curious about this film, because of the story, and the trailer
seemed promising. In the first place, the acting isn't brilliant (the
lack of intensity is notorious)...but it does the job (i was expecting
more of Dominic Purcell).
The first hour shows an interesting history development, where we are introduced to the plot...what first originated the haunting, the three ghosts and their ability's, and the reason why their are so angry. The reason that in my opinion this movie was a waste, it's because of the last half hour...where the movie shows the low budget that really is.
The story as one of the worst endings I've ever seen in this type of film, transforming this b-movie into a z-movie, where a ghost story, becomes a monster one (can't keep thinking about that ending scene...for god sake..such a waste)!!!
In conclusion, a movie that had potential, ends as a vulgar one, with a terrible ending.

With the title The GraveDancers I was a little worried about it. I was
suspecting Zombie but got Ghost instead. This was a solid movie up
until the end. The flaming skill was a crappy way to end it.The ghost
were neat looking and I wish they would have shown them more. Story
line was decent through out the movie and kept you interested. Acting
was also some what decent as well. If you have some time check this
It currently on Demand with Comcast under Fearnet
It did start a little slow but picked up about 20 minutes in. Main actor is Dominc Purcell, you may know him from Prison Break Licoln Burrows.
After attending a funeral, three friends get drunk and dance in the
graveyard while saying an incantation. Just good, clean drunken fun.
But the incantation wakes up the spirits of three ghosts, who are less
than friendly -- a murderous seductress, a sadistic rapist and a
pyromaniac. Another funeral might be just around the corner.
By now I've seen most of the After Dark Horrorfest films from 2006 (and eagerly awaiting 2007's additions). Some were good, some were bad... but this is the first one that really stood out for me as worth telling people about. A simple plot (being haunted by ghosts) with some quality casting and decent visual effects.
Dominic Purcell (from TV's "Prison Break") stars as Harris McKay, and really carries the film well. Much like his TV persona, he is the strong and leading man. This works well for him. Clare Kramer ("The Thirst") is excellent. For me, the standout performance came from Megahn Perry, who played Culpepper (the paranormal investigator). She came across as both witty and serious, which I think drove the film along nicely.
I would like to single out the visual effects crew. The ghosts are debatably good or bad. I liked them. You might ask why their faces are so gnarly for no apparent reason, but they're angry ghosts so I let it slide. The real credit goes to the blood people. The scene where a hospital sheet soaks with blood was fairly well done, and the bruises and scrapes on the female lead were very brutal. So I hope to see more from these people, whomever you are (sorry that visual effects people don't often get as big of credit as they deserve).
Rent this one before you rent the others ("Wicked Little Things", "The Hamiltons") because this sets a tone and raises a bar, I think. The film is fast-paced, cleverly plotted, visually pleasing and well-acted. From new film-makers this is more than anyone should expect. So that's my recommendation.
Mendezes Gravedancers did to me what I expected it to do. Scare me couple of times good. Even when I knew something scary is about to happen, I was still getting' the goosebumps. So I feel confident that I can recommend this movie to anyone who likes a bit horror for a nightbite. What comes to acting, the quality did vary along the movie from good to tolerable, so it didn't break the mood. What comes to characters, well, I don't think they were thought through all the way, but they didn't seem plastic either. Why I am still giving eight stars is because this is a old-school horror movie, with scary looking ghosts (except the final scene which is kinda over-the-top) and nice special effects. The storyline is acceptable also and it does not have serious flaws either. All in all I had a good ride with the three vicious ghosts and I think I'll be visiting them again after some time. "I ain't running anywhere unless something is chasing me"
First of all let me just say that I am impressed... really really
impressed... this isn't your normal run of the mill
stupid-teenagers-get-drunk-and-pissoff-a-ghost horror flick first
reason being that we're talking bout well educated adults in this movie
which I personally enjoyed since its a nice change and I'm impressed
they managed to pull it off since lets face it .. its way easier to
make a story work with stupid drunk teens raising hell then lawyers and
also this movie has excellent pacing starts out nice and easy giving you the plot and lets the story build up and ends with you glued to the seat wishing you had never started watching this infernal movie
and the demon/ghost/evil things are just great.. Cant say that I've seen anything quite as scary in a long long time if ever... seriously I had to sit down and watch a bunch of cartoons before going to bed after watching this just to calm my nerves
now for all you die hard horror fans out there saying "meh sure I guess its worth a shot" let me just point out that I am one of you for the pas years I've been very disappointed with just about every new horror movie made and slept like a baby after each of them ... was starting to this the tales of getting desensitized were true and that I would never again get a full-body-hair-raising-Adrenalin-rush again
WRONG - you will never get rid of fear - I spend the last half hour of this movie with the sound just low enough to be able to hear the dialog and the screen size just big enough to see what was happening without getting any closer .. Muscles as tense a rock
I urge any and all of you to see this movie and I really hope that we'll see more of its kind in the future
I really wanted to see this movie because I knew Clare Kramer (of Buffy
fame) was in it. I expected it to be pretty shitty though just do the
the plot of the film. But don't be fooled, this film actually has some
The plot is somewhat original where a trio of friends dance on a few graves after a night of drinking and become haunted by the ghosts of those in the graves they danced on. Not bad.
The movie actually has some good jump moments and is well acted and well written. The only complaint I have is that there is too much silence and too many long shots.
What really brought the film down was its overblown ending. I won't give it away, but it's pretty laughable.
Overall though, it was a good watch. If it had a bigger budget, it could have been a really great film.
I didn't think this was good. The guy from Prison Break was in it (not Michael, but the other brother) and it seemed like he was in this just for a paycheck. It was slow at the start and then when the action finally came it got to be more of a horror farce than something to take seriously, although the tone was kept somber. It was almost like a cartoon at the end, it got so ridiculous. Might have worked better if it was filmed in a comedic horror style because it didn't work as a genuine horror. As far as the characters, I thought they were mostly amateurish in so far as the acting and pretty bland. The pacing also was difficult, with a slow and tedious start coupled with a rushed super-hyper ending. The premise itself of the movie was kind of silly. I wouldn't recommend this even to horror movie fans, it just was very forgettable and not entertaining.
