Classic feel of scary stories told by a campfire
13 October 2006 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Near Day II reminds me of an old record of scary stories I had when I was a kid. The stories were told simply by a narrator with a soundtrack of effects and music. They were quite effective when listened to on a cheap turntable at night.

In that tradition, this little film is told from the first-person narration of a man who is quite fed up with his girlfriend and decides one night to do something about it. The mood is quite effective and the story is tightly told. I wish it had been better lit, but the composition and acting are fine. Oh, and I like the music. I also think they could have pushed it a bit more at the end, but I suppose they didn't have much of a budget for makeup effects. All in all, this would fit well in a short-film horror anthology.
