Cute for kids but that's about it
21 May 2007 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Cute as entertainment for its target audience of Primary kids, but definitely neither deep nor profound. The brass plates story for a Saturday morning cartoon audience. The "cute factor" wears off quickly for adult viewers. Some songs are catchy, but most seem a bit long. The Utah Valley accents and inflections, the costuming and sets and character names in the modern portion outside the BoM narrative ("Spencer Anderson", "Sister Larsen") all betray the Wasatch Front myopia that continues to afflict "Mormon cinema." Maybe that's just savvy marketing to a known target customer base who wants only what's familiar. Maybe it's ignoring potentially wider distribution that could result if the production looked a little less Utah-centric.
