Like a bunch of little pieces

Korean cinema really ought to be just two genres: action (or action/comedy) and drama (or romantic drama/comedy). That's pretty much the only stuff the Koreans do really well when it comes to movies. Sure, they make other stuff like horror, but it's usually not terribly original or good. Running 7 Dogs is one of those that appears to be done well enough, but lacks something to make it really good.

The story seems like it has a tenuous connection with movies like Pulp Fiction. There's a lot of seemingly unrelated characters that cross each other's paths or all have a common thread. The problem is that none of the threads really come together too well. There's a lot of characters introduced very quickly so it's hard to get a sense of who's who and what their place in the story is. I'll give the movie credit for having one of the better endings I've seen in Koreans cinema for awhile. But it almost feels like too little too late (it's undoubtedly cool, but it's pretty short considering you just spent the last hour and twenty minutes trying to figure out who's doing what).

All in all it's not a bad little movie...it's just a little disjointed. I'd certainly recommend it if you're a fan of the genre.
